Got a freezer doe tonight. We ran out of 2021 deer meat back in July and are ready for more!

Yesterday I patrolled the new piece of property we bought for blinds, stands, cameras, whatever else, and posted about 50 more signs. Found many scrapes the size of a bathtub and a lot of rub lines. Looks very promising.
2 miles down the road is where I live and is my main hunting piece. Corn came off yesterday and just like clockwork the deer were EVERYWHERE. I was glassing them from the house and quit counting at 15. 3 were bucks with one being a shooter by my standards (3.5 and 130"). Then every deer in that field snapped to attention. I looked that direction to a very mature 12pt with 8" tall brow tines making it's way closer and closer. Watched him for about 15 minutes as he checked the doe's for stank. Probably go in the high 150's to mid 160's. Just a marvelous specimen proving that QDM works! Now if I could convince all the dolts on the surrounding properties to stop shooting sparky the wonder spike we just might all enjoy a better herd age structure. |

Button bucks have to be the dumbest animals in the woods. I swear I could kill one with a knife if I wanted to. Enjoy the veal! |

I like week days the best. Deer aren't pressured and running around. Double lung, little low, missed the heart. Any heart recipies? Probably do the standby of stroganoff over homemade spaetzle. |

I could eat a bucket of this. |

Any of you sharpshooters want a free cow elk hunt, look no further. Might need to be a pretty good shot. 3 shots at 200, 3 at 300 is the test. Field positions only, the 300 shots can be prone. 3 minutes, no misses. 12” round plate target.
https://cpw.state.co.us/Lists/News%20Releases/DispForm.aspx?ID=3689 Interested volunteers must complete an application that outlines strict requirements. Youths under the age of 18 are ineligible for this opportunity. Those who advance through the application process then must complete a shooting qualification hitting small targets the size of an elk’s vitals at 200 and 300 yards. Those attending the qualifying shoot must hit each target three times in a row without a miss within a three minute time period. “This qualification has proven to be difficult for even the most seasoned elk hunters,” said CPW Area Wildlife Manager Rick Basagoitia. “This standard is likely the minimum allowable standard given the difficulty of the work we need volunteers to do.” Applicants also must pass a background check, sign volunteer agreements and will operate under a dispersal coordinator. |

After several years of coming up empty I finally got my 1st buck. It's only the 2nd buck I've ever seen while hunting. The 1st one I wasn't able to get a clean shot off before it walked into thick woods It's not the biggest but I'll take it after sitting multiple days in the rain and wind from the hurricane. I was super excited and rushed the shot and gut shot it but the 458 socom put it down quick. It got the job done but I'm still not happy about shot placement.

Damn good stuff in this thread. I’ve been hunting a bunch this season, but came up empty handed so far.
Actually saw a deer this morning, but she looked young so I let her walk. First deer I’ve seen while hunting in a loooooong time. Sportsman’s paradise my ass! |

Nothing worth taking a picture of.
Got a bad shot on a doe yesterday. Left it alone overnight after tracking it to a bedding area. Went back this morning and found it but the coyotes had already started on it. Left the rest for them. |
