Here's the situation:  In terms of rifles, you own several AR-15's in several configuations, a dozen pistols (from .22 to .45), several shotguns, and a Remington 700 PSS in .308.  You'd like to make another purchase to round out your collection.  What's the best choice?
1) Custom Ruger 10/22 with bull-barrel and Leupold 3x-9x scope.
2) Springfield M1A Scout
3) Remington LTR in .308 with Leupold 3x-9x scope.
4) Custom Marlin or Winchester .30-.30 lever action with Teflon coat, ghost-ring right, 16" barrel, etc.
What do you guys think?

None of the above! FAL or HK! Ok, out of your choices, go with the M1A.

IMO, the Rem LTR gives you nothing over your PSS.

The M1A Scout is kinda a "one-off" rifle. A shorter barrel than the .308 was designed for. But it is a handy size.

The 30-30 is basically a deer rifle only. I don't hunt anything other than "X's"

The scoped Ruger 10/22 bull barrel would be a great plinker.

Since I'm a fan of weapons of military usefulness, I'd probably go with the M1A Scout with a synthetic stock. (With a good scope and rings, that puts you in the used car price range.

The Ruger would be a close second.

Like SP10 said, I'd get the DSA STG58 FAL over anything that you listed.

$795 from your dealer.

The Ruger 10/22T target model is an excellent rifle. You will not be disappointed! Cost about $300 in Stainless and then your Leupold scope for $250-400.
I have not completed mine yet but I have have the parts to make it...So if they ban them mine will be Pre-Ban![}:D]

1) Best choice.....everyone should have one.
2) Good choice.....but not as good as 1.
3) Bad choice......essentially the same thing as your PSS.
4) I hate 30-30's.

M1A Scout is a great rifle that fits nicely in your collection. (308 semi with versatility)

Go For it!         [sniper]

FAL's or 91's aren't an option anymore in CA.  I Just have a hard time spending $700+ on a .22 carbine/rifle that isn't tactical and couldn't protect me or my family.
The custom .30-.30 was an option because a couple of years ago I saw a Gunsite custom police version of the Marlin .30-.30.  It is still in my mind.  It was so slick and handy, yet power enough for survival.
My only reservation about the M1A is that .308 is expensive to shoot.  It's easier to control your fire (and budget) with my PSS, than an M1A, FAL, etc.
Anymore input?

.308 milsurp is quite affordable and can be quite accurate. I have a bunch of 1989 Radway Green which all of my .308s (A DSA carbine, an AR10, and a Greek SAR8) shoot very well. One of my very first on-paper groups with my iron sighted DSA was 5 shots into ~1 inch with 3 shots in a ragged hole with 2 close flyers at 50 yds.  My recently acquired SAR8 easily picked off clay birds at 100 yds with the stuff. Cost? Around $150/1,000 rds at my local gunshows. Hirtenberger is also very good stuff.

You will also not like the cost of the M1A mags.

Must suck to be in Kalifornia. The only problem is that the liberal disease is spreading to all the other states. It is just a matter of time.

From your selection of choices, the 10/22.

I'd try the new Remington 597 Target version...

If I went with a .22 rifle, would you guys prefer the 10/22 or a bolt action .22?
What uses have you found with your .22 rifles?

I'd go with the 10/22 over a bolt.  10/22's are very accurate right out of the box and they can be easily customized.  Not to mention they are reliable as hell and cheap to buy and shoot.

Go with the 10/22.

I have a Ruger 10/22-T stainless with a 3x-9x Vari-Lux II in sliver. Thumbs up!
