Quoted: Quoted: I recently bought a case of Belom 124gr 9mm. That works out to $16.35 delivered. That saves me $4 or so a box if I buy from Academy. What price did you pay for a case? Forgot, did pick up a case of the 124gr Belom for $289.99 a while back, think probablh a week or two after it showed up here. It's been good stuff thus far, would buy again. The plastic boxes will be nice for reloads too, a small added bonus there but nice nonetheless. |

You can buy 5.56 for 40 cents which is only a dime more than ten to twelve years ago. I have expressed this same opinion on ammo and lumber, there is no going back to what it used to be or even close. All of the manufacturing expenses have risen. At some low price point it becomes unprofitable to even produce. We, all of us, are suffering from the shock of rapid inflation but it is real and this is a part of it.

I've never thought to myself......."man, that sure was a stupid idea buying all of that ammo a few years ago when it was so cheap"........and it seems like the prices never go down, always up.

I haven't invested/ stockpiled ammo since after Sandy Hook. Even though I was still new to firearms, it was obvious that ammo shortages would happen again. I remember going to the Academy Sports in Jacksonville, and it was just filled with Fudds looking for 22lr.
I am stocked well for all of the common calibers. What really kills me is the milsurp stuff. I don't care if the prices are a bit high. I just wish that I could find stuff like 303 or 7mm Mauser. I had a chance to pick up two Swedish Mausers, but passed because I knew that I would never be able to find 6.5. |

I'll buy 5.56 when it hits .15¢ again. I'm well stocked on hunting ammo, but always looking for more.
ETA: to answer the OP, no I'm not buying any ammo and haven't really been watching the prices. I'm surprised anyone is buying at current prices. |

Ammo prices have come down some. I continue to buy as I have always went about it. I buy a few boxes of ammo every pay day, such as 2-4 boxes of 9mm, 5.56/.223, .22lLR, 7.62x39 or .308. I also make bigger purchases, 200-1,000 rounds every couple of months. I rarely shoot and focus on trying to stock ammo. Over time I have added a pretty good amount of ammo. I also have all the equipment and components to reload 9mm, 5.56, 6.5 Grendel and .308.

I've bought 2k rounds of .22lr at $0.09 per round after shipping and tax just because my son has been shooting up my stash and I wanted to replace some of it. Otherwise I haven't bought any ammo at all since I think February 2020 when I paid $0.23 per round for 9mm. $0.24 is my "buy" price on 9mm. I'm not sure if it will get that low again but for now that's where I'm at with it.

Once the first tactical nuke is used in Ukraine or Pedo Joe hits MAGA country with an B61 from an F15 you’ll wish you bought at todays salad prices!

I haven't touched it.
9mm 115gr range brass is still double. Fuck that. |

Before I found this place in 2017, I'm embarrassed to say that I was unknowingly a FUDD.
I thought "stacking deep" was 10 boxes of rounds. Then I saw the amazing ammo forts of you Inglourious Basterds. I was inspired, and I owe this place a huge thanks for opening my eyes. I still think 10 boxes for each caliber is right, but the "boxes" have gotten MUCH larger. Oh, and enough components and tooling to reload each of those 10 "boxes". I'm good. Thanks ARFCOM. |
|
I'm not going crazy, but I've been buying plenty of 9mm under $300 shipped and .223/5.56 under $475 shipped.
Plus a good amount of surplus 7.62x51 when it pops up around .75rnd. Not great prices, but stuffs getting better. |
|
Somehow, I managed to purchase 12 boxes of Hornady 147gr. 6.5CM Match ELD for only 24.75 a box from an ammo dealer at the gunshow last weekend.
Wish the guy had more. |

they fuck with the prices of gold and silver in perpetuity
harder to control the prices of lead, copper and brass |

Winchester has a 20% rebate going on, until Dec 19.
I just got green tips for ~$.37/rnd |

Quoted: Well, your dollars are worth quite literally 50% less, so it tracks. I don't think there is an ammo panic going on right now, but maybe there’s a lot of government contracts to fill? View Quote This I'm sure the raw cost of goods is much higher this is the new normal. During the panic a box of 9 mm was 50 bucks it's been stable now for a long time at 14 to 16. I don't think it's ever going back 8 to 10 dollars ever again. |

Just not nearly to the same level as when ammo was reasonable. I'm not mad if you or anyone else wants to keep buying. No hate. Just answering OP. |

I truly believe a lot of us are still reeling from inflation but the reality is $.40 5.56 is a deal now and if you can find sub $.30 9mm it is a steal. These are the salad days as freaking crazy as it seems. I nearly have a stroke everytime I pay $2 for a 20oz soda at a convenience store. |

I have a bunch of ammo. Plus I get to shoot all the 9mm and 5.56 ammo I want at work.
The only ammo I have bought semi recently is a couple hundred rounds of 300win mag in 2020, and a bunch of 6.5PRC and 300PRC at the end of 2021 and some more a couple months ago. |

Primers, powder and projectiles.
The cost gap between reloading and factory ammo has widen quite a bit. Even with $80 primer bricks. |

I have been buying and shooting 9mm and 5.56. I've slowed down a bit, but still getting out fairly regularly.

bought 2500 rounds of .22LR this morning from Midway.. .07/cpr, free shipping.

I'm not buying huge amounts like I used too, but I buy when I see good deals (for today) and when I need or just feel like it.

Some but not nearly what I did. Mainly saving it for special events.

I'm really only buying 22lr, need to stack up for my kids to shoot up when they get older

i am seeing people buying in smaller Quantities, guys aren't buying cases, just 3-5 boxes at a time

I’ve only purchased 6.5 creedmoor and .22lr. That was Fall of 2020. Was decently stocked on 9mm and .223/5.56 before the pandemic.

View Quote Hopefully you have enough 5.56 to last a lifetime because it will NEVER hit 15 cpr again. . In 2002 (?) I was buying the SA tubs which worked out to about 16 cpr delivered IIRC and that was 20 years ago….let's use the magic inflation calculator…..it would be 26 cpr today. Not bad but doesn't meet your 15 cpr threshold. |

There is probably never going to be another stash of surplus ammo found for these old calibers ever again. These calibers can easily be reloaded for much less than factory or even surplus ammo is going for in the current market. I actually bought a target rifle in 6.5x55 specifically to take advantage of the cheap primed blank cases J&G sales has. They have been selling them for cheaper than you can buy a primer. Pull the wooden bullet dump the blank powder and add your own new powder and bullet. I have been loading 6.5 Swede for about 50 cents per round or $10 a box. |

A better conversation would be primer pricing and availability.........

Spent $207 last night for 120 rounds of .50AE and was happy just to find it in stock.
I actually purchased more ammo during the panic than prior. Just got into guns in late 2018 so I'd turn my nose up at .18 brass 9mm in favor of only paying max .16 and never realized that those prices were unusually low so I didn't really stockpile. During the panic, some vendors such as Sig pretty much kept their prices steady so what used to be grossly "overpriced" ammo suddenly became quite reasonable, and early on before they introduced limits, I picked up a few cases of my common calibers. Only calibers I'm still buying are those that I hadn't been shooting before, namely .357 mag and .50AE Despite inflation and supply issues, I expect that once the recession sets in for a while, margins will pull back due to lower demand and prices will come down a bit more. |
