(Winter Haven) Just went over to friends house to help with generator. Drove around neighborhood, very dark, can't see anything other than directly infront of you a short distance, small debris everywhere on the roads.

BTW we are still in the hurricane so don't think it is time to get cracking just yet. Let it clear up somewhat before charging down there to help. Backed up roads and having to rescue the rescuers ain't gonna help things.

We have at least a couple more hours before we see a bit of a drop off in wind intensity around SRQ/Bradenton |

They have a natural gas full house generator but I’m worried about the flooding as they are not far from the beach and right on the Orange river. They said all was good at about 4PM but then went silent. Also worried about the looter assholes. |

I'm in north lakeland, power out, tree on house, not sure how bad the damage is yet, dark. Staying hunkered down. Still really nasty outside.

I’m right between those two and we went and had a nice dinner at the local Italian restaurant. The place was packed and they said they are staying open until 9pm, no changes. On the way, we saw the 2 gas stations, CVS, McDonald’s and such all open as normal. It is a bit windy right now. My wife and I were standing in the front yard 15 mins ago watching the 130’ pine tree across the street lean to and fro. No rain in the last 5 hours here. 3 streets away is without power. Probably just a tree/limb. The Marlins are up 4-2 over the Mets right now. I see a stirring about a relief thread being started. Great idea. |

Just read on ABC news that Ft Myers and Naples have a curfew, started at 6pm for next 48 hours...

I’ve been locked down at work for the last two days and an unforeseen number in the future until damage and clean up are assessed.
I don’t know if anyone has heard about North Port, but there are sections that are absolutely devastated, more specifically the Jockey Club. Not a lot of reports coming out yet, but come the morning you will begin to see. The north western side of the storm came out of Charlotte harbor and absolutely decimated a large number of homes. Downtown and inland Sarasota made out much better than anticipated so far. But we are expecting a lot of rain to get dumped overnight. Venice took some hard hits but nothing like Ft Myers or Naples. This storm may go down worse than Katrina when it’s all said and done. It stayed a category 3 much longer than anticipated and we were getting over 120MPH sustained winds hours after official landfall. |

Emergency vehicles are no longer responding to calls in Sarasota County, as it is not safe on the roads. Now is the time to shelter in place. My dad and step mom live in manatee county, last heard from them at 7PM (I suspect cell tower is down now), winds were blowing rain into their house through the weather stripping (nothing to major according to them). Bunch of trees down, no power, and the county supposedly had a lot of their sewage pumping stations fail so they are being asked to not shower, flush toilets, etc.
We are in St. Augustine, winds and rain have definitely picked up in the last hour or so here (but only to the level of a semi strong summer thunderstorm). Have friends hunkering down at Disney, Disney gave people in the hotels curfews for 9PM and handed out flash lights. |
