Yeah I'll have to have me one of the new S&W 5.7s.
Intrigued by the design.
It might not need any coating to function.
View Quote

Every account I've read has said that removing the coating did not affect function in pistols.
Not sure how well a PS90 would run without it.
I'm sure AAC had tested this and taken it into consideration.
If not, a lot of people will be disappointed.

it’s a blasty little round whose terminal ballistics benefits from muzzle velocity.  Whether taking an inch off pistol barrel length is a good trade remains to be seen.

Reducing the grip would be much better for CCW. But that means developing a new magazine for the shorter grip.

Only the flyer someone just posted upthread.

ETA: and found video of it... only a 1/4" shorter barrel. That is fine, especially with the option for a threaded barrel allowing a longer version.

The AAC cases are coated. That's the black coating you see on the brass. A type of coating is CRUCIAL for function in any blowback type 5.7 action. It's used to prevent the case from sticking in the chamber during firing so that the shoulder can bump forward vs, the case just stretching at the neck and ripping it off in the chamber. There's quite a few people who try to remove the coating and end up with reliability issues. I've run noncoated brass in subsonic use and it's OK. It also tends to help with the P90 magazine feeding as well.

Buffman, you get any in hand and test it yet? Interested to see what projectile they used and what the velocity out of the handguns and an SBR’d PS90 look like.

The red tipped load is Vmax.
Bullet is identical to ss197 projectile other than tip color.

FN used to load the red tips as ss196sr.

According to MACs tour video, they are manufacturing not only brass cases for their ammo lines, they are making the projectiles as well.

Didn't mention powder or primers, but wouldn't that be a kick in the head?

True for some loads, but if it says Vmax or XTP or Sierra on the AAC box, they didn't make those projectiles...

I have not. I think they were waiting on the coater to get the brass done. I'm ready to test it when they have samples in hand. Ideally I would love to have about 1000 rds for initial testing to cover spread of 5.7 guns that it could be used in (save for the new M&P which I don't have yet), especially in cooler temperatures to start...

That sounds like a gun issue or a bad mag. No way it shouldn't feed or extract either of those loads.

Factory barrel that was chopped, or an aftermarket one swapped in?

Chopped factory barrel. Has about 1-1.5mm of forward and back play like it should.

FWIW this is one of my theories also. My gun with Mancave rollers eats AE happily as does my buddy’s. Correlation is not causation but it’s a cheap thing to try and the Mancave rollers are visually and tactilely infinitely more pleasing than the factory ones so not a complete waste of money even if they don’t solve the problem.
