Quoted: Whenever I watch one of these 80's retro lookback videos, I get an emptiness feeling in my stomach. I miss those times soooo much. I truly loved the 80's. Quoted: the 80s were awesome, but not because of a handful of popular movies and tv shows in the OP. they were awesome because it was the last decade of freedom, and a positive economic outlook thanks to Reagan. Quoted: You mean those of us who played outside, drank from the hose, take off on our bikes and be gone till sun went down, parents had no idea where we were, walkman listening, NES playing, checking in! Quoted: Funny story - So, a couple years ago, we were moving into a renovated building that was built in 1985. The Architect in charge of the renovation designs, who was also a Gen-Xer, was asked why the floors had 12’ ceilings? Without a pause, she replied; “BIG hair! We had to have the headroom for all the big hairstyles in the ‘80s. I can show you a B52s video if you don’t understand”. View Quote That wasn't the only big hair... jungle safaris were so much fun! |

I think they have a 90's video like this one but it's just Jennifer Connelly riding the horse for an hour.

Gabriel Air shocks--because who could afford tubs? Cragar SS or slotted mags. Intake and carb, dual exhaust with Thrush turbo mufflers hooked to exhaust manifolds on a stock cam...because who could afford all that expensive hot rod stuff? But you could bet there was a Clarion or Alpine or Jensen or Pioneer deck in there, with speakers on the package shelf... If I could change one thing...I would've taken more pics. But it was so expensive back then, and you still had to pay for your mistakes and bad shots... |

Quoted: On weekends we were booted out of the house at 9am and told "do not come back before 5". View Quote Gen Xer here, class of ‘87. I Regale my kids with stories about leaving the house, and the parents had no idea where you were. Many times ‘spending the night at Roger’s’ really meant ‘we’re driving down to SDSU, picking up Becky, and partying in Tijuana…’ And maybe sleeping it off on the Beach. Hell, I was going to another country, and my folks had no idea. And it was glorious. Probably wearing corduroy Op shorts, lol. We were the last generation with actual freedom. GenX confession: I’ve never watched Footloose. And I’m ok with that. |

But the flight sure was worth it." And I can totally relate to that. Jumping our bikes; misjudging the speed or trajectory and hitting either a tree, your friend, some big-ass rock. Or just slamming into the ground after a 3-4 second flight and winding up with God-knows-what stuck in your hair, your knees, your elbows, your eye(s), or just sticking out of the hole it just made. And if you wore a helmet or knee or elbow pads, you got called a fag. Hell, you'd get shit if you wore a shirt, most of the time. Shorts and shoes were basically all we wore in the summer. And sometimes shoes were optional. BEST FUCKING TIME OF MY LIFE! |

No one has a definitive time frame....i could post half a dozen that differ
If the old people think kids from the early 80s have something in common with people born at the beginning of the 2000s...your senile The generations fall more practically from the late 80s early 90s to the late 2000s The internet is one of many things that split the initial narrative timeline The 80s were awesome |

Quoted: Right? That's how you know we were Gen X: When the idea of 300 HP was fucking amazing. View Quote I have seen 427's dropped into 67-69 camaros on the driveway by a bunch of highschool boys. Jocks and stoners lining up muncies, 440 chargers assembled without adult supervision. Guys that later would become lawyers politicians, and cops building cars. Call it what you will but it was commonplace. |
