I don't have it yet.  But, my son has always wanted a 1918 BAR.   He sent me a link that they were being produced again.

Not 2 days later a buddy messages me out of the blue.  Just to say hello.  I mention to him that my son is thinking about getting one of the new BAR's.   Buddy offers to sell me his.  2 stocks.  Walnut and Bakelite. 25-30 mags.  Some NIW Korean war vintage.

4500.00.   I am pretty happy about that.  Should have it next weekend.

$100 for a 9mm Tokarev out of a guy's trunk at work back in 2005.

It was apparently a rare model (I thought they were all cheap junk) and someone else at work gave me 500 bucks for it a couple of months later.

A snakecharmer .410 with a case and a pistol grip mossberg 500 20 gauge 4-5 years ago. Guy here in town had died and his daughter asked me to look at what he had. I told her what I thought the guns were worth. She said ok do you want them. I told her I really don't need either of them but if you want I'll give you $150 for both of them. She said ok.

Tc contender in .22 hornet and a freedom arms field grade 454 casull. Customer of my dealership passed away and his widow asked me to help her price some guns. 11-12 rifles, 6 shotguns, 7-8 handguns and a couple muzzleloaders. I spent a couple hours taking pictures of everything and then a couple weeks grading them and putting together a list of values. When I got done I asked her about the casull and the hornet. I like weird stuff not that anyone needs either of those guns. Someone in town had offered her $350 for the contender and $900 for the casull. However, her late husband didn't like either of those people. She said give me $1000 for the pair. Sold.

I did also get one of the walmart discounted rem 1100s for I think $249.

Also got a mossberg 500 with both barrels from the walmart clearance for $199 I think it was.

That reminds me of another deal I got.

About 6 years ago, I was in a pawn shop just outside Huntsville, AL. I found an AR consisting of a pre-ban SGW lower, no-name 6-position stock, and crappy 16" lightweight barreled flattop upper with a set of Fobus plastic quadrail handguards. I don't remember the price on the tag, but I asked what thier bottom dollar, out-the-door was. The counter guy said something like $450. I acted like I wasn't sure, but went ahead and bought it.

Once I got home, I pulled the stock off the lower and sold just the lower with LPK for $900 or so within 12 hours to someone in a Northeast ban state. I still have the stock and upper, whcih now reside with a MagPul MIAD grip on a Doublestar lower with broken triggerguard ears. It's a true beater rifle that's been rattlecanned. I doubt I could get $350 for it, but I'm into it for literally nothing.

Nice!

Circa 2001 or 2002 or so, when I was still in NY, I went to our local funstore and Bob had a pristine Norinco underfolder on the wall, $1100. Pricy as shit, but it was a pre-ban underfolding AK...had to have. I filled out the paperwork and Bob (owner) said "Hang on, I've got the box and everything in back"...turns out it was literally new in the box; factory grease on the gas piston and all still. Someone bought it and threw it in an attic, and forgot about it until a week before I bought it. They doubled their money for sure, and I still got a brand new in box Norinco for what back then was a pretty good price...

I always wanted one of those, but even 20 years ago it seemed like those pre-ban Chinese AK’s were 1500-2000, especially the under folders. That would bring 3500-5000 now I think. 1,100 was a good deal.

Too many to list. One notable was a G19 for $200. Guys dog got ahold of it and chewed the grip bad enough that it wouldn't accept a magazine. I spent 15 minutes with a dremel and a file and it was g2g. The puncture marks actually added to the stippling effect.

Milsurps are a whole other story. So many bought cheap and have greatly appreciated over the years.

Summer of 2002, I was 16 and working part time at furniture store making whatever the fuck OH minimum wage was back in 2002, probably $5-6/hr. Anyways, on my lunch breaks I'd go across the street to the pawn shop and look around. Sometimes I'd find something cool, most days not so much. Then one Friday I saw her...

She was an AR, made by Sendra (I didn't know shit about AR manufacturers at the time). 20" pencil barrel, didn't know what twist rate, triangle handguards, A1 upper, and the lower was marked:

SENDRA
M16A1
CAL 223

SAFE
FIRE

$400 even. I asked and the guy behind the counter let me handle it, and that was it. I had to have her. Problem was I was a 16 year old making $6 an hour. So, I plead my case to my Dad, and after a little bit of masterful negotiating (at least I thought so) we agreed on an arrangement. I'd pony up $200, and he'd pay for the other half, and then I'd owe him the $200, plus an additional $100 for his trouble. We shook on it, and that Sunday she was all mine.

She came with a sling and a 20 round mag. I knew exactly jack and shit about the AR-15, so I took to the internet to learn everything I could. I bought an old SMCT, an M16A1 sight tool and a cleaning kit at the surplus store to aid me in my endeavor to figure how to properly use the rifle. I decided that I didn't like the 20 round mag, so I bought 30s wherever I could find them (this was during the AWB) surplus stores, gun shows, even a garage sale. Then I decided that I wasn't a fan of the A1 aperture, so I bought an A2 aperture, Rapidex windage knob and a 3x carry handle scope from the Cheaper Than Dirt catalog. Wrapped the stock and handguard in OD 100mph tape to give it that camo effect. Hose clamped a Mini-Maglite to the barrel at the gas block, because it seemed like a good idea.

I put I don't know how many rounds through that rifle, humped it throughout all the woods of NE Ohio hanging out with buddies camping on the weekends in the rain, mud and snow. I sold it to my little brother in 2007 when I got home from my first deployment.

So there it is. The best deal I've ever gotten on a used gun.

I kept the 1911.  He had gotten the guns as part of a house he inherited.

1903 Springfield. Picked it up at a yard sale for $150 a couple years ago. The original stock had been butchered, the rear sight leaf was Dremeled off down to the base, and everything was covered in what I believe was dollar store black spray paint. A cheap reproduction C stock from Boyd's, a complete rear sight assembly for $20 on Ebay, a $5 handguard from Sarco, and now it doesn't look too bad, considering how it looked when I got it. Best part was the 4-groove 1930 barrel, which pretty much gauged new. I've got around $225-$250 into it total.

I aint ever lost money on a gun deal. Ive broke even a few times, but never lost.
I gave 60 bucks for a like new nylon 66.
Lady I helped sell her husband and sons collection insisted I take a G32 for my troubles.
Browning A bolt slug guns, I bought new for less than 500, sold 1st one for 1100 I think.
Buddy of mine also had one he wanted 400 bucks for. I traded that one for a NIB Leupold 8.25x25 Vari X III scope and got 800ish boot.
ETA I just thought of another one, NIB Single six with both cylinders for 125

I bought a couple Stevens bolt actions.  I bought mine maybe 5 years ago in the used gun rack at GT Distributors for $60.  It looked a little rough but cleaned up nicely and is one of my favorite guns to shoot because it's Hollywood quiet with the can and CCI quiets.  About a year ago I bought another at the DACA gun show at Southfork Ranch to give to my brother and nephew.  That one was $50 and no tax.

In April of 2019 a member came into the range where I work. Had a Sig Sauer P250 DAO that his wife did not like. She got something else. Asked me if I wanted it. How much sez I? $250?? Well let me think on it. He came out after shooting and I said yeah I guess I'll take it. Told him right then he could get more for it. He said, I know, but its yours if you want it. Thank you very much I said. Hard case, papers, and 3 magazines. They were fetching $500 at the time.

Great gun that I shoot VERY well, after I swapped out for the small grip module. It's a keeper.

A few others here and there over the years with closer margins.

I've gotten some good deals on three of my four Sigs. West German P-228 $280 (private divorce sale, 1999). Mk25 $590(2018 GunBroker). SP2022 $315 (in 2017, included stainless guide rod, 5 hicaps, holster, GunBroker).

MAK-90 $200 in 2008 (including 1200rds Chinese ammo, 5 Chinese mags). I did the de-ban when parts were still cheap. I have maybe $600 in it, including the gun.

$500 for both of these Yugos in 2008

Saiga Legion SGL 31-68, $800 (2014), including a tin of 7N6 and 3 original Russian AK74 mags. I have since sourced an original stock set from a connection in Russia.

My C&Rs have all bee exceptional deals, considering how much they go for today:

1985 Yugo M59/66, $140 (2004, including matching arsenal maintenance booklet)
1943 Gusloff Werke K98k, $200 (2005)
1953 CZ-52, refurbished at VOZ in 1983, $100
1945 Izhevsk M44, $80 (2005)
1943 Izhevsk 91/30 $70 (2005)
1943 BSA No4 Mk1 $139 (2005)
1942 Izhevsk 91/30 $123 (2006)
1941 Izhevsk M-38 $113 (2006)
1944 SA M1 Garand $550 (2005)

-Decades ago I was in a pawn shop in Panama City, FL, and bought four East German AK-74 mags for $2.50 each. The shop owner said they didn't fit any AK he could find and that's true because I don't think any AK-74s had been imported yet.
-About five years ago I was a yard sale and found a Chinese 75rd AK drum in the canvas, perfect condition, and fully loaded. One of the sellers saw I was interested and asked me if I wanted it. I said I didn't have enough because I only had $40 cash with me. They said that was good enough and sold it to me.
