I was in Lancaster today and saw 10 of these tanks heading toward the mojave desert. Also saw a stealth fighter (sorry no photo). The place has some real strange people living out there but I see some unusual military equipement.

That's not a tank, it's an APC, from some NATO country. (It's not an M2 Bradley.) This has been ongoing for years, rumor is that Nato troops are training for ops in CONUS.

Actually, it is a Bradley. The side-mounted TOW missile launcher and add-on armor plating are  dead giveaways (as is the suspension for those of us who've worked with Bradley/MLRS vehicles.) The 25mm gun isn't mounted on this one for some reason - perhaps they remove them for transport in a more secure manner. It looks like it's being carried on one of the new HET (Heavy Equipment Transport) trailers.

All the personal I saw with the convoy were dressed in U.S. military fatigues, green not desert tan. No blue helmets or black helicopters

That is an M3A2 Cavalry Fighting Vehicle.
It is heading for the NTC, or national training center. The armor isn't add on, it is standard on the M3A2. The gun is a 25mm bushmaster auto cannon. The auto cannon is removed before transport on the HET. HTH

Saw a whole trainload of those go through Northern Utah on Sunday.  Truly impressive mix of Bradleys, M113s, Humvees and M-1 Abhrams.  Don't know where they were headed but they were the same paint scheme.

Didn't they have a kit for the earlier Bradleys about 10 years go? I could have sworn that I saw the plating unbolted from a Bradley back in 91 or 92, while over at 724th Maint Bn (24th Inf Div (Mech)) getting my own track worked on.

When the Warren tank plant was still open near Detroit, I saw a whole train load of Abrahms.  You dont realize how big they are until you are standing next to one.  One tank per car. They were painted desert yellow. Is that just the primer or were they going to the Middle East?

It was a sight. These transports were cruising down the freeway at 70 miles an hour. I took the photo out my passenger window as I passed them with my Sony mavica digital camera
