My son has enjoyed his Mossberg AR-15 (Modern Sporting Rifle).
Came factory with Free Float Forearm, 1/9 twist (best for general use in my opinion) and a A-2 flashider - muzzle break. Has been a GREAT shooter over the years with never a stumble, fumble, jam or issue of any sort! BIGGER_HAMMER |

View Quote DO IT!! you can get a steel replacement (and with extension too if you'd like) very inexpensively that will solve 87% of Mossberg issues (Broken Plastic Safety) BIGGER_HAMMER |

My 500 blew the barrel apart at the pump. Damn near took my hand off.
Theres 3” section of the barrel missing and receiver it warped so bad it doesn't work. I had my hand in a cooler of ice for hours to control the swelling. My rem 870’s work flawless, mag tube spring and follower along lifter upgrade. Perfect. |

Quoted: For me, it's the Maverick 88, the best Mossberg shotgun. Especially since they removed that gaudy-ass billboard on the receiver. View Quote Is it best because they eliminated the slide carrier and connected the operating arms directly to the plastic forearm or because it’s made in Mexico? |

Have a Maverick 88 bought 30 years ago. It went everywhere I went for five years in an armored truck, countless trips into the woods and several times on “bump in the night” duty. A couple of thousand rounds, probably 1/4th of that buck and slugs for qaul and training. Has never failed. Will one day buy another.

Hey, they go bang every time.
Mine eats any shells I stuff into it. What’s not to like? |

If Mossberg is a dirty whore, the Maverick line must be the dirty whore's retarded kid wandering around eating dirt between trailers.
You know how everyone says that you can just buy an American made pump shotgun, and it will work out of the box? A buddy of mine got a Maverick 88 that had a burr/mold flash line on the hammer that made it go click, not boom every few rounds. Mossberg/Maverick were pricks about the warranty, and he and I eventually fixed it ourselves. |

Pinned forends are now on Mossberg 500s 3. Eagle Pass TX makes all the shotguns now. Even the 500/590 are essential Tex-Mexbergs. 590s may be worth the added expense for a clean-out magazine tube, but the 500 offers me nothing over the 88. YMMV |
|
my MC1SC and Maverick 88, both made in their Eagle Pass, TX facility, are nicely finished. i was shocked at the 88, considering it was $190. The MC1SC runs great if you throw the ETS crap mags that came with it and run G43 mags. Metal sights and a trigger that's a good bit better than G43.

my first gun was a used 500 ct in 20 ga. $75 for the shotgun with both barrels and a soft case in the mid 80s. used to double feed until i noticed someone replaced the shell retention springs with 12 ga springs. been flawless since i replaced with the right ones.

If this is true then new Winchester shotguns are the crack whore in the hood.

Mossberg 500's just work. I repair them myself if necessary like many other firearms. Have only had to replace the safety on a used one I got for $125 cash.
Parts are available. Youtube is your friend. It's not rocket science. |

What are the Remington folks going to do for warranty service now?

Quoted: No one has ever said "My 870 is just as good as a Mossberg.., " but the opposite is quite common. That's a clue...... View Quote My 870 sucked compared to a 590A1. 1970’s era Wingmaster that threw the shell latches after being restaked three times, chipped ejector that had to be replaced by gunsmith and the fucker would jam up solid with cheap shells. Had to replace the entire trigger plate to get a reliable left handed safety. 590A1 doesn’t use staked in parts, the ejector can be replaced by removing one screw and the tang safety is ambidextrous. |

No telling how many Dove each season and a turkey each spring since I got it around '93 or '94. Best $340 or so I have spent in quite some time. |

If it had an engraved scene of Orange Rage’s demise - maybe before on the left side after on the right, alternating dumpster and mattress pattern on the borders - I’d pay up to 800 or 3x the un-engraved price, whichever was lower. |

The only thing I never did like about the Mossberg shotguns was the hollow loading feed ramp. Regular shells work fine, but those funky aguila mini shells would always fall point down through that trap door. you had to put the gangsta lean on it and shoot sideways to get those little bastards to feed right.
Edit: This was before the little adaptor was available, so before you start.... |

Why do people call the aluminum safeties “steel”? I’ve never seen a steel Mossberg safety.
My favorite safeties for all shotguns are S&J Hardware’s |

I bought a 590a1 when they first came out. It was hot garbage , clunky and crude compared to my Ithaca or my Franchi pump. I hated it and sold it. I have a newer 590a1 marine coat and it is much better.

The beater M500s we had in the Army ran just fine and a 8-shot M500 I got in a private sale NIB for $180 a couple years ago replaced a Benelli SNT as my bedside scattergun. I am a certified armorer for both the R870 and M500/590 series of shotguns and I own examples of each. I just prefer certain things on the Mossberg...
