I had mine done 41 years ago. I guess I qualify for the group that can attest to no long term effects. Going this route was much preferable to my wife having to take birth control pills all those years. A few days of mild discomfort was well worth the result.

Do they not teach basic reproductive system anatomy in school anymore?

Here’s a remedial hint: hormones produced in the testicles are released into the body through the blood vessels that feed the testicles. Not through the vas diferens, which is the tube that takes semen from the testicles out through the penis. This is the tube that gets cut in a vasectomy. It plays no role in blood hormone levels.

Vasectomy != castration.  Not remotely close.

Jesus fuck I weep for the future of humanity.

You sure they didn't just get fat?

Also, if they got castrated, they really should be suing their doctor.

2 weeks post op I developed a hernia. Supposedly that can't be related, but what a coincidence. 3 weeks post op I had a prostate infection that took a couple of rounds of antibiotics and 3 months to clear up (doctor said it is highly likely that was a result of the procedure). I still have frequent prostate issues now, which I never had before. I still have some pain during sex, and it's been 4 years.

Needless to say, I don't recommend it.

The guys who shit in these threads and claim stuff like "You never nut a good hunting dog" would also be the first to insist that their wife goes in for invasive surgery to get her tubes tied instead.

We did both. I was at the hospital for 8 hours while my wife got her tubes tied.

I was in and out of the urologist in about 40 minutes total.

If insurance didn't cover both it would have been thousands of dollars difference too.

I'm only a year in, but no long term issues thus far. No complications from procedure, just iced and took it easy. No pain pills even. Took about a month to heal, but it took a little longer till it seemed like everything worked just right again down there for some reason, maybe another month or maybe two? After that I was right back where I was before. Been fine ever since.

I have a small amount of pain sometimes five years later. Things don’t quite work the same as before.

I don’t recommend.

I get random pains in my right nut now. The right side took 3x as long to heal properly and hurt much longer than the other while healing. Now it randomly feels like a midget reached up and just squeezed it in their little hand for a few seconds, maybe 2/3 times a month

You could very well be setting yourself up for a drop in testosterone.

When the Vas Deferens is cut the sperm cells are absorbed into the body. They are absorbed by means of the immune system attacking and destroying the sperm cells. Studies do suggest that in addition to sperm cells, the leydig cells can be attacked also. The leydig cells produce testosterone.

So yes, you could end up castrated.

Be a real man and produce more children than Mormons, Catholics, Orthodox Jews, and Muslims know what to do with.

All you guys saying “I’m so glad I did it because I got divorced” have more wrong with you than can be fixed over the internet.

I had mine done in November 2020. I had abnormal pain in my right testicle (compared to my left) for a good couple weeks. It wasn't terrible just annoying. It also felt like it was hanging higher/more center than normal. All is good now, just have to burp the worm into a cup to get the all clear in a few weeks.

*****ETA: You will feel OK immediately after the surgery but half way home the numbing shit wears off and you will feel like you got kicked in the nuts, several times...HARD. Bring a bag of frozens peas to the appointment in a cooler. Trust me. Oh and don't drive yourself, I almost did and I am glad I didnt.

ETA2: I got the no scapel, no needle variety, I recommend it.

Had it done 5 years ago, no issues thus far. You do learn just how much is tied to that region.

Don't watch anything funny until a few days after!

OP believe or not. 1979 I got mine. My wife watched and it was not so bad. Weeks

later I took a sample in to be tested. I got the call after testing and they said

I would have to be redone. Good news it was on the house. Wife watched again

and it hurt. I asked why does it hurt this time? Doctor said it's like pulling pipe

out of concrete. FFS.

Get er done.

A nineteen year old inmate at a reform school in Indiana got the first vasectomy in the U.S. for "non-medical reasons" in 1899.
His name was Harry Sharp.
He's no longer with us.

This. Do NOT get surgery on your precious genitals unless absolutely necessary.

Have it done by a prominent Urologist - not a regular doctor. Be prepared for some pain when they insert the needle into your testes, but after the first 60-90 seconds I could uncurl my toes and it was ok. Had mine done at 8:00 am on a Friday, drove 250 miles across the state, unloaded my jonboat, drug it through 200 feet of cattail swamp and was building my blind for the duck opener by 3:00 that afternoon, never a second of discomfort then or since. Urologist said to wait 10 days before firing a load, the ex only let me wait about 5.
