As a young hunter, I’ve always carried while hunting. This shit is what scares me the most when I’m out. Doesn’t matter if it’s archery, rifle or waterfowl hunting.
Crazy ass dudes... |

Quoted: Killed two kids, one if which I knew. Chance worked at final fight outfitters in union city, a large locally owned hunting and shooting store. Nice kid, quiet but could be funny as hell. David Vowell had hunting partners who stopped hunting with him because he'd gone off the deep end years ago. He's a POS and I hope he dies a painful death. Reelfoot Lake, as another poster mentioned, has a colorful history. From the Nightriders to current day shenanigans, it's an interesting history. Duck blinds are seen as private property by some folks, even though their use is subject to a lottery draw by the TWRA. It isn't odd to have your decoys sunk/stolen, somebody pepper your blind with bird shot, shoot your boat, or shoot you because you're hunting in "their" blind. Damn sorry to hear about your friend I hate senseless stuff like this... Its all too common in rural hunting communities. A few years ago some deputies another county over got into a shootout with a nutball guy I know when the dude was trespassing on private property. The owner had enough of trespassing to hunt, drove out to chase him off as usual, and the trespasser shot out the windows on his truck. The deputies went out, there was an exchange of gunfire, and the guy gave up with no injuries to anyone. His excuse was "My family built that property, its ours for life." The house had been built in the mid 1800s, and abandoned and the property sold sometime before WWI. It was a well known hang out spot for local teens and a bottle of MD 20/20, but this one particular family had some weird claim over it. The dumb fuck wasn't even alive when the property was sold off, but it was still their property in his mind through tradition and story passed down through the generations. |

Quoted: Quoted: Why? If anyone wants proof of why young guys don’t have much use for hunting, look no further. This is an extreme example, but the attitude that if you’re not hunting the “right” way you don’t deserve it is prevalent. Extreme indeed ! Another example are the Land Tawneys and Steve Rinellas trying to make it so you can’t hunt if you’re not packing sharp sticks 10 miles into a wilderness area for a week. |

Quoted: I hunt a little (not very successfully LOL). I didn't start hunting until I was in my 30s. One of the things that turned my off of it for a long time was how otherwise normal, level-headed, upstanding members of society would turn into irrational raging assholes once their preferred hunting season started. View Quote and you would've thought I was actually Hitler the way the people after me criticized my playing for taking their cards. Add in all the internet hunters and the fact that "reality" shows are helping to ruin the sport, and crazy old fools like this guy do even more dumb shit. Damn! Are you allowed to take some centerfire rifle protection while out there in the boat? I know i would. View Quote Reelfoot Lake was farmland prior to the earthquake in 1811. It was privately owned and had been for a long time. After the quake, the lake was formed. Private developers came in and tried to buy it; most were chased off in a bad way...one of them was killed and his attorney seriously injured. The state of TN made it public land and took over conservation. Local families still "laid claim" to areas around the lake as many used it for their way of life. The duck blind battles have gone on for a while. Some hunters when lottery-picked for certain blinds, forgo their opportunity to lease it from the state because they don't want to deal with Molotov cocktails being tossed at them or dodging birdshot. It's not like this on all hunting spots, most are just fine. A few though could be a little sketchy. |

I’m missing something here.
Where is the “he shot them for hunting his ducks” narrative coming from? I don’t really doubt that that’s how it went down, but how are we determining this? I just see a very rudimentary news story. |
|
A brief background here. While it doesn't have much to do with Vowell's actions (he's not a Lake County native), it does provide some background on the other junk that goes on.
