Depends on my mood and the type of Jazz. I'll typically throw on Jazzy chillhop (Jazz with a bass line for the boomers), or straight up fusion Jazz or easy listening, if I want something on in the background that's not overly distracting.

Bob James - Angela (Theme from 'Taxi') (audio)

The more classical stuff and swing and what not I can also do, but it can be too lively to chill out too. I typically reserve that for driving music when the mood suits me.

My Favorite Jazz album.

Miles Davis ~ Kind of Blue.  (mic drop)

Sketches of Spain is worth having too.

Absolutely. I have it.

I would recommend Duke Ellington and Johnny Hodges ~ Back to Back. It’s an amazing collaboration.

nuts.

Literally every race has made good jazz. You just wrote off salsa and bossa nova, and a whole host of stuff from Asia. Japan pumped that shit out like it was candy, and while beitodestraffe might post all that new age hello kitty boo boo bullshit(), Their OG Idols were all singing over jazz and big band tracks.

So toss out the entirety of the bossa genre?

Besides every white guy already listed, you want to toss out Tal Farlow basically creating chord melody structure and then, IMO, the most versatile jazz guitarist to have lived, Joe Pass?

Sounds like you need to get out more.

The Miles Davis Prestige albums (Workin’, Cookin, Relaxin’, etc.) are fine, fine records.

I've really tried to enjoy jazz, but my conclusion is that it's terrible. At the end of the day, it's just a bunch of wanking by egotistical "musicians" who want to show off their chops.

I do like a little big band from time to time but extended soloing really annoys me.

My favorite, David Sanborn.  Best sax player in the world.  Take the 6 1/2 minutes and enjoy.
