I think I started losing all of my superpowers around 40. I was pissed off when I got my first cavity, if I had only known what was coming over the next few...

Most of it could likely have been avoided by living a boring life but I think I’d still do it all again (mostly).

Im not. I'll be 52 in May. I work outside and do a lot of hard, physical labor.

I can work guys half my age into the ground. Then come home and work around the house, take the dog for a long walk...

Get 6-7 hours of sleep and wake up good as new.

As I said in my earlier reply, I really feel there's a connection between the way you feel and the type of job you do. We were not designed (as humans) to sit in a cubicle or a car all day, we were designed to do manual things and labor our days away... and I felt way better when doing manual labor for shit wages than I do in a cushy office job - so much so, that I almost want to just say fuck it and go back to doing manual labor as long as I can make a livable wage doing it.

Bad pneumonia in 2000-ush
Neck surgery in 2004
Various older injuries that have started to remind me that they're there on a daily basis as soon as I do anything more than sit at a desk
But I'm still alive, so I'm not complaining

This only 49. Typing this as I sit on a heating pad waiting for my back to settle down so I can get on with my day off.

In the last 10 years my vision went from great/razor sharp to solid but getting nearsighted.

Shoulders dicked up but trying to exercise them to retain range of motion and some semblance of strength.

Knees used to be the worst part on me from a pain standpoint, now they’re not that bad. They still hurt, just other stuff hurts worse.

These are the times I learned I have to be careful what music I listen to from my past. Certain tunes come on and I’m 18 or 26 again in my head and I realize how much has changed, how many loved ones are gone, how stuff hurts now that didn’t then... it can be a little overwhelming.

Recently picked up a truckload of dog food (we have great Danes). I was carrying two bags at a time up the stairs, thinking "Not bad for an old man, I'm almost as strong and fit as I ever was."

Then I noticed that they weren't 50-pound bags, they were only 30.

45.  I feel good overall.

I have a desk job and work from home so I make sure to walk up and down the stairs for no reason periodically.
Tweaked my ankles too many times from rucking when I was in the infantry and get reminded of that now and then.
BP is creeping up but is manageable with diet.
Not looking forward to my eyesight starting to go.

I'm doing pretty good at 59. I'm a big time mountain biker and nordic skier. Though I have slowed down on the mountain bike. Mountain biking is a good way to hurt yourself. Been there. I'm currently obsessed with skate cross country skiing. Talk about a physically and technically demanding sport!

I'm planning on doing a through hike of the Colorado Trail this summer. I highly recommend hiking and backpacking for keeping the weight in check. Doing this kind of stuff is what keeps you young in my opinion.

About age 55 or 56. That's when something would be hurting every day when I first got out of bed. Morning ritual has become two Motrin, a long hot shower, and three cups of black coffee to start the day.

The good news is the two meds my doctor has put me on. I went in for a problem with recurrent insomnia, and was diagnosed with low T, so the doctor put me on HRT (200 mg testosterone IM once a week). I now sleep six hours straight again. She also prescribed 5mg Tadalafil (Cialis) daily to promote completely emptying the bladder when I urinated. No more urge to pee every two hours.

The oh-so-wonderful side effects are that my wedding tackle once again works like I'm 35. (I'm 67). I have both the desire and the ability to perform spontaneously, and my GF is very pleased with the situation.

Lupus and Sjogrens syndrome diagnosis at age 42.  Thought it was just normal to feel like shit every day.  Now it aggravates every injury I've ever had -rotator cuff tears, herniated discs, hands.  On the brighter side, the ticker, kidneys and liver are in outstanding shape despite my best attempts to kill Mr. Liver.

Damn is this the 80 meter sub-forum?
I'm 60 and never had anything other than just getting older. Worked construction a great deal of my career, but I probably couldn't do 7-12's welding anymore, nor would I want to. Yea your eyes get weaker in your 40's, you lose strength and stamina. Just part of life. Suck it up, nobody gets out alive.

Last year.

I had knee surgery after several drainings of 70mL of fluid. The last was beet red. Right after the surgery my hand started hurting. Now I've been diagnosed with arthritis. I've been avoiding drugs (and still am) but I went to the rheumatologist today. I got a steroid shot to see if the swelling in my foot goes down so I can walk like a normal person again. I'm going to try a gluten-free/anti-inflammatory diet to see if that helps. Otherwise, it's on to the nasty drugs.

Late 40s or early 50s.  A life of sports and various injuries - mostly self inflicted - eventually catches up.

Nevermind failing eyesight.  Corrective lenses really suck when you're used to 20/10.

Or, another subtopic, how many surgeries have you had?

Turning 50 later this year, and, wow, what a shitshow. I’ve had an ACDF last year to repair a herniated disc at C5/6. Looking at additional work to repair a torn hip labrum and decompress a nerve at my L5/S1 (lateral recess stenosis).

To keep things lively, my left knee is getting more painful and is popping with every flexion. I guess active duty, hiking all my life, sports is catching up.  Being 35 lb over not a friend either, but I’m working that off.

Please tell me it at least plateaus, at this rate I’ll be in the mechanic’s shop every year.

Giving up alpine skiing was a sad day for me.  It was that, or risk a permanent limp forever, or worse.

I am considering taking up cross-country skiing but haven't done it yet.

My work partner told me I really needed to see a doctor for my aches and pains. I told him I was fine. He said you don't see yourself walking around here. I was probably 50.
So far I have:
compression and bulging in C6-7 and C7-T1 in my neck. I get the occasional feeling that a meathook is in my upper back and my arms tingle or throb. Nerve impingement that some times makes it hard to make a fist and sometimes I get the dropsies with any light like a fork or spoon or a pen. I just can't feel it in my hands. Had injections that have helped with the pain.
Left shoulder has a partial SLAP tear.
Right shoulder has a mild rotator tear. The shoulder stuff makes it hard to do much work overhead.
My back has 3 bulges around L3/4 , L4/5 and L5/S1. Mornings can be tough and when things blow up I've been down for 5-6 days. Also makes it tough to be on my feet for over 20 minutes. I've had numerous spinal injections with some success.
L Knee has been scoped, success.
R Knee was scoped and didn't work, knee was replaced in 2018. So far so good.
Rt. foot was fused in the middle after a break and is pain free but doesn't flex too too well. This affects my wearing boots. Most Ariat boots work well.
Lt. ankle is bone on bone so I have a diminished range of movement.
All but the right foot is from 31.5 years of firefighting.
I do still ride and occasionally ride and race a dirt bike. I am pushing 64.

I’m 37 and on a mission to stop my downward trend. I have an autoimmune arthritis and was deteriorating and looking at stronger meds. The side effects of the stronger meds like Humira etc. is what finally got me off my ass to improve my lifestyle. I’ve started doing the anti-inflammatory/Mediterranean diet and reduced my alcohol intake to one glass of red wine or one glass of whiskey per night.

I was already swimming and have a fairly active job as a construction contractor.

I think the reduction in alcohol may be a bigger effect then the diet but I think they’re both helping me with how my joints and body feels.

Sugar is a major inflammatory so cutting back on the booze and the med diet cut a lot of sugar out.

This is true.  I worked in an office setting, mostly, which is why I had to hit the gym several days a week, plus hiking/climbing/hunting/running.  Yard work to me was a nice break, & still is.  Humans aren't meant to be idle.  One look at our physiology will tell you that.

I mean F man.

Now you have me worried.

I’m sureness my 40’s knees and shoulders bother me sometimes, had one elbow suffering to remove a lose body.  I mean I can bench my 500 lbs anymore but I’m in ok shape.  Once in a while my back acts up.  Ivan still run a 7min mile squat double my body weight and bench my body weight 20 times.  No chronic illness that I’m aware of, ans I thank god for it every day.

I really noticed my body slowing down at about 38-40 range.  Recovery much longer.  Not as much energy.  Joints getting aggravated, and keeping up with lifting became a bit futile. I had to adjust my goals towards longevity, not gains.  It took a lot of time for my brain to accept that I needed to slow down.  I feel better for it now.

I literally thank god for my Heath every day.

At 29 y/o when I tore my ACL the first time.
At 37 y/o when I had my ACL revision.
At 40 y/o when I had a septal myectomy (open heart surgery) and labral tears repaired in both shoulders.
At 48 y/o when I had an ablation for Afib - the worst part about this one was it took a week for my back to unknot.

I'll hit 50 this year.  I spend time with a bunch of early 30 year olds on a SWAT team.  All the time.  But I'm also working out harder than I have since high school football.  So I'm sore a bunch, but probably in better shape.

Shoulder (labrum tear), hernia, ACL replacement, MCL tear, thyroidectomy, and should probably have the other shoulder done.
