I just picked up a 2014 1500 4x4 outdoorsman loaded with 80K for 20,000. Hemi with 8-speed and 3.92 gears. Super clean with factory liner and tri-fold tonneau cover, nav, folding mirrors etc. Original sticker was in glove box and it listed at 47K. Can't afford new. oil changed every 5K, it's a keeper

Certain trucks have always been retarded.

I sold my ‘99 Superduty 7.3L back in 2014 for $2200 more than I paid for it years earlier with almost 100k more miles on it. I did take great care of it and fixed any problem it had, but still, the only loss I ate was the cost of a set of tires.

I wonder how much my 2006 Silverado 3500 with an LBZ is worth now, even with 400k miles. Body is rust free too.

My dad just bought a 2018 yukon denali.  He wanted the 6.2 with the 10 speed.  He was looking for a month.  Got discouraged, couldnt believe used prices.  I found the one he bought.  First day it poped up on the dealers site.  Told him to get over there quick.
2018 with 14k miles on it.  So they leased it for three years and didnt put 5k miles per year on it.  Kelly blue book was 55k.  They sold it to him for 46k.

Im seeing 2018s with 30,40,50k miles going for 50+.  He got lucky.  Loves the new yukon.

Respectfully. He’s not getting the entire picture.
Yes. You see new rams for 20k. But you have to be a FCA employee, with a 790 credit score, be a realtor/firefighter/veteran/grand mason with a size 14 boot.

They add every single possible discount to get you to 20k.  Nobody qualifies for that.

Here is an example.

I was thinking of getting a truck as a daily since my job is looking like it will go full time remote permanently. No need for a commuter car then.

But then I looked at the prices. Anything I would actually want is just more than I want to pay for it. Trucks don’t see to depreciate that bad.

had a buddy tell me yesterday that he took his clapped out diesel chevy to carmax with 275,000 miles on it and they offered him $15,000 and before he took it someone lurking around took him aside and offered him $2000 over the carmax offer so he went down the street with him. Turns out he was a flipper/dealer type guy and they did the transaction in the parking lot of a walmart. The buyer said carmax had been chasing him off over and over and he kept changing his appearance and coming back. Sketchy stuff, but just an example of used values run amuck

In theory it shouldn't matter too much, but in reality it does.  Many people are leverage heavily and are making multiple large vehicle payments. A doubling of gas prices could cost a commuter another $200 /month in their household that has zero left in the budget. Then there is the group who has negative left in their budget, with growing personal debt (credit cards).

To OP:

Here is a brand new 4x4 CrewCab V8 for $30k.  I bet you could work a price even lower than this.  If you were willing to go with a V6, you could do a similar truck for about $5k less.

The commercials aren't lying when they say Texas is Ford Country.

With the premium pricing, lack of dealer negotiating, and insane used prices - I'll probably never drive another Ford truck.

You can get into a Dodge 2500 that is half as old with half the miles, for less money than an F-250.

Fuck yeah they have a cult following. I don’t understand the arfcom FJC hate. They are meant to mod and wheel. A wrangler looks like an old model T with no lift and small tires. Same thing with the original FJ40.

I grabbed this pic today off an FJ board to illustrate my point. This is what Toyota was building the FJ for, and why they are so popular now.
