Motorcycle.   have some sort of bacteria trapped between my hardware and bone so it swells up, pops, and drains every couple of months. Waiting on date for hardware removal.

You are lucky your foot even points the right way.

Make the most of it, teach others to always ride with their boots on, especially kids whose parents don't fully grasp what can happen.

My son (13) was with me when I wrecked and throughout the recovery...

One thing I've learned when dealing with ortho docs.

You need to really convince them they need to deal with your problem.

Tell them you can't sleep and can't do your job.  They hate to open the skin so make sure they realize it's necessary.

Your screw is still pretty fresh - it will come out easy - and it's no longer necessary anyway.

(I have a protruding screw from an ankle fracture that I didn't insist be removed and it's so old now the Doc thinks it may shear off if they try to remove it.  The other experience was carpal tunnel syndrome that I finally insisted on a surgical solution after suffering WAY TOO MANY years.)

I can't remember if it was a member posting a thread about this, or someone I know personally (scary that I can't recall which), but I've seen someone pull a screw out in your situation. They lanced the skin and went to work. I'm not recommending that by the way...

Doesn't hurt to walk on and everything inside is healed according to my last xray. It is shoes/boots that are painful, they put pressure on the screw.

Be sure to sterilize the skin first before opening it up to pull it out. Slap some superglue on it afterwards and you'll be good to go.

You might need to use some vice grips in case you don't have the right type of screwdriver.

Is it a pin or an actual screw?

I have the same scars and hardware. I crushed a cuboid and had a lis franc separation as well. I just tripped getting off my boat though.

Fortunately my screws are still in place, that looks gnarly!

Did they do a fusion and take bone material from your heel? I swear that is what has bothered me the most. I had surgery back in February and damn I can tell when the weather changes now!

I had a surgical screw come loose in my shin bone.  I started to notice it when kneeling in jujutsu class and it kept poking out more and more.  Surgeon removed it.

what you are experiencing is normal. The long screw is the only hardware crossing the (Lisfranc) joint. Once it is healed the joint regains some motion and the screw begins to loosen. Sometimes the screw breaks. If it is painful or prominent like yours it should come out. If the screw head erodes through the skin it may lead to an infection and becomes a more urgent matter.

I've had screws removed from that same location. You can do it yourself. Post pics.

ETA: You're going to need an allen wrench instead of a Phillips head.

take a few shots of whiskey and put some ice on that part of your foot until it's numb. Heat sharp knife up to sterilize it or just dip it in your whiskey  take sharp blade and make small incision then unscrew the screw until it comes out.

In for op to get an amputation from a bathroom surgery infection. BTW screw backing out like that are typically one of two things, infection or you walked on it early.

Hah.

The bones often loosen up around screws, and they can get wobbly... that's pretty severe. :D

They'll put you under and take it out easy-peasy.
