When he gets aquitted of the state charges, it's pretty certain that Xiden department of social justice will hit him with some concoction of civil rights charges. A preemptive pardon would have been appropriate and appreciated.

Or Carter pardoning hundreds of thousands of draft dodgers by the crime itself, not by individual names. Also I believe post Civil War all of those who fought against the Union were pardoned.

Lincoln and Johnson also issued preemptive pardons.

However, pardons cannot be issued for acts that have yet to be commited.

Rough crowd this morning, don't sweat it.

Aside from the state vs federal, getting a pardon also has to be done after conviction I believe. You can't pardon someone for a crime they haven't been convicted of.

Nope can pardon without a conviction or even charge.

United States v. Burdick, 211 F. 492

I googled it, from the Wiki (I know they're not the best source in the world)

It is widely believed that this case decided that a pardon carries "an imputation of guilt, acceptance a confession of it". However, whether the acceptance of a pardon constitutes an admission of guilt by the recipient is not clear and the quote mentioned was part of the Court's dictum for this case. [2]

Regardless, if I was in Kyle's position, I'd take a pardon even if it meant an admission of guilt....the people who think he's guilty or innocent wouldn't change as a result of it.
