Unfortunately, you're right. Obviously there's some dudes here that don't mind wearing their symbols of servitude, which is fine. For you, it's off to reeducation camp, after you get your magic needles first, of course. :)

As for flying, it's just a hard pass honestly. Babylon doesn't really exist anymore.

It's bullshit that doing it in one place is fine doing it in another get you a run in with the police.

I can already eat inside as long as it's outside and they don't have anywhere the air circulation and filtration and cleanings airlines have.

What makes airlines so fuckin special?

You stand up to bullshit rules by not giving them your business (which a lot of people here have said and I understand that).  You don't purchase a ticket and agree to follow their rules then not follow through once on the plane.

Do you follow through when you count to three with your children? Or do you just stay at 2 1/2 and show them you aren't serious?

And before it's said "what about the other passengers..? They may miss their connections."  That's true (yet unlikely actually). However, it's not the airline that made the decision to divert. It's the person that won't follow a basic rule that they originally agreed to.

Or, in the spirit of civil disobedience, you do exactly that.  Then they can either be reasonable, or they can do what they did here and piss off the whole plane.  We can call it "negotiation of terms."
If a thousand people did the same thing on the same airline, three a day for a year, that airline would be forced to change their rule or lose a lot of business.

Of course not. But, (IMO) it’s not worth getting worked-up and causing a scene over a mask.

Airlines can most assuredly pull over and drop people off.

In a literal sense, sure. But, it’s always been that way. With that said, it wouldn’t make sense to divert a flight for a person refusing a mask after takeoff. Get to the destination and ban the traveler. Less headache for everyone, especially if it’s an otherwise non-confrontational issue. In the end, you agree to the mask when you check in. So, abide by your contract and wear it.

In college a friend I were flying, security opened his Buck knife to measure it against their hand to determine if it was to big to fly or not.  It was about half inch to big, but they decided it was ok ayway.  I took a large sip of my mostly rum out of my 20 oz of rum, rum, more rum, and some Coke.

We were free once.

Instead of laughing maybe try explaining how that's wrong.  Rosa Parks got on the bus.  She agreed to follow the bus's rules.  If she didn't like it, she could have walked instead of causing a scene.  If she had just suffered in silence, she never would have been arrested.

Well, one is discrimination based on legitimate racism, not the watered down racism of today.

The other is a dumb rule that applies to everyone that has nothing to do with racism or discrimination...it's just dumb.

At least the gentleman above that declined to go to Thailand was sticking to his morals. I might not agree with his reasoning, but I respect the choice.

It's the guy that buys a ticket and agrees to the contract of carriage yet decides he's going to rage against the machine once he's on the plane that deserves no respect.

I have worn a mask maybe five times since this madness started. Three times in that period I walked in a store and a mask nazi lost their shit about you must wear a mask. I just walked out and spent money elsewhere. I think the mask mandates as practiced and enforced are the dumbest fucking thing I have ever seen or heard about. I refuse to take part in it whenever possible.

All that said I had an opportunity come up to do something really cool with some close friends I have not seen in a long time. It requires flying commercial. So in eight hours I'm going to wear a mask in accordance with the policy I agreed to, take that flight and take advantage of this opportunity. I'll hate it but I'll act like an adult and not give people trying to earn a living shit about a decision they had nothing to do with.

This stupid shit will end eventually.

Great point on the tax dollars.

I'm curious about the "agreeing to your rules" comment. Do you have a list of rules that you review with people when they are about to enter your house? I'm pretty much of the "leave people the fuck alone" opinion as far as house rules. Even more so with a business. The customers have paid for aa via tax dollars to prop them up and then again for the ticket. If you're double dipping, you should especially be accommodating to your customers and let the little bullshit stuff slide.

There hasn't been freedom while flying for 20 years.

First it's the masks, then it's the vaccine. You can bet your bottom dollar. Then I hope the airlines go out of business. They'll probably then be collectivized.

Airlines will never go under, not the big ones at least. Uncle Sam will continue to subsidize them via your tax dollars no matter how many people stop flying as a result of their ridiculous rules.

The free market argument put on its chute and bailed.

Flying sucked before this bullshit started. Now? No fucking way I'm getting on an airplane again.
