Quoted: No, dressing your hoopy in race car colors is even dumber than dressing your super car in race car colors. I find it acceptable to own/drive a car with a historic livery if that chassis actually raced under that livery. In fact, that's fucking badass. Like this $70 million 250GTO that the weather tech guy owns. It actually raced, and won in the early 60s: https://smartcdn.prod.postmedia.digital/driving/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/ferrari-250-gto.jpg Everything else is posing and a bit cringeworthy IMO. Ultimately though, people can do what they like, I don't really care. It's just like, my opinion man. View Quote In 1963, the French colors were replaced by the yellow stripe across the hood by owner Jacques Swaters (Ecurie Francorchamps) to represent Belgium. It was later painted blue and then all red, before being repainted to silver with the French stripes again by then owner, Frenchman Henri Chambon in 1986. In '97 he sold it to Nicolaus Springer who then returned the car to it's Belgian themed livery, that it has today. Than of course, David McNeil bought it in 2018 which will be the first time it lives in the US. That's all I really have to add to this thread. |

Quoted: Quoted: Not a musical bone in my body, I don’t care. OK, same question, but skateboards? Guitars and skateboards are irrelevant in this beat down I’ve brought upon myself Signature skateboards (and probably guitars) often have design characteristics developed by that pro that make them ride/perform in a specific way. I get why you’d want a Tony hawk signature board vs a Bucky lasek etc. I haven’t skated since like grade 8, but is it even possible to buy a generic, non pro signature deck? If you like buying/collecting them for the art value, that’s cool I guess. Not for me, but you do you. What would be cool, is owning an actual deck ridden by Tony hawk. |

All current sports cars destined for the street contain performance characteristics and design features directly linked to professional race teams that preceded them. I agree it's more of an homage than anything, but if it's a factory offering it's usually more than just paint. |

I understand that, but a Miami blue 911 GT2RS does not perform any worse than a martini liveried version, yet looks infinitely less stupid (IMO). Want to pay homage (and be unoriginal)? I can see where they are stupid, but hey, to each their own.
Pictures 1 and 4 do look awesome though. |

I agree with the OP that it’s a bit silly.
However, it doesn’t bother me at all, and I can appreciate someone having their toy (I assume these are track/fun cars, not D.D.) painted in a way that makes them enjoy it more. Honestly, I think it is just a silly for people to get crazy fast/powerful cars, like Lambos, Ferraris and the fast Porsches, and then get them in boring grey or black colors. That’s almost worse, to my mind. |

I have an actual race car that I race at a race track and wouldn't put any livery that showcased another brand that I'm not directly sponsored by, receiving contingency for or otherwise receiving some sort of benefit from.
It's like buying a shirt with a logo of the company that makes the shirt. why would I advertise for someone else for free? |
