When I was arrested at the Capitol, the amount of unimpressive milk sops that I saw was eye opening.

Btw, the tunnel system underneath is pretty neat.  Looked ancient.

Not likely salary but salary plus the other costs of employing.......medical, retirement, training etc.   They couldn’t be making as much as a congressman without living on site for the OT.  I am betting good pay but not as good as speculated.

I know a guy that has been on the USCP for just over a year. He's in the process of leaving and going to be a cop elsewhere, way away from D.C.

Do you understand the difference in roles between a typical County Agency and the Capitol Police? You need more manpower for onsite physical security. They aren't handling dispatched calls for the most part.

I'm by no means experienced in this; but I would imagine that the equipment cost would be significantly higher for a county sheriff department that is driving a ton of miles (millions?) a year and one that seems to be primarily guys standing around with high vis tape on a glock.

Again; I don't really know shit about the capitol police except they value the lives on Congress over average Americans.

Each of those buildings has access controls and other security functions associated with it (though Supreme Court has its own police force as well).

They also have investigative functions, a mission to respond to a much larger area than just the capitol compound, and 435 high maintenance charges (and their families) for protective duties nationwide.

Lets do some math.   We have an agency with 2000 on it's staff.  Let's say they have the latest Motorola radio issued to just half that number.  The latest Motorola top of the line radio goes for $3000 to $5000 so we will just say $2000 with all the accessories that come with them ...because.. Uncle Sugar.

$2000  X   1000 officers  =  $2,000,000

The Capitol Police have over 2,000 sworn officers. A police force dedicated to protecting Capitol Hill has more personnel in its service than the police forces of most of the country.

Congress' private cops are the 19th largest police force in the country. It’s a larger force than the police forces of Atlanta, Baltimore, Denver, or Milwaukee with a massive $460 million budget.

It’s the only legislative federal force in the country that is answerable exclusively to Congress.

I've met quite a few Feds that started in Capitol Police or VA Police after the military and then went to other agencies. Those guys stand post and work.  They all aspire to work as 1811s in agencies where the case load is marginal.

Generally poor reputation. High turnover rate as officer start there while waiting to go somewhere else. Should be rolled into FPS. Bad to incompetent leadership, tiny patrol area, but not just the capital. Lots of extra "body guard" staff assignments to accompany speaker of the house, or various senators/congress people that need or at least feel they need security.

No need to see a conspiracy with what happened, last week the people in charge are double digit IQ yes men.

Also when they were handling the riots over the summer,  they also sucked, got lots of help from DC PD, secret service, bureau of prisons and dozens of other agencies.

Supreme court police, much, much worse.

Politics aside, America actually needs competent professionals in these positions, something we are never actually likely to see.

And then the Left launched a social media campaign to shame Trump for going into the bunker, knowing full well that the Secret Service moved him there, he didn't go running himself. It would be like if people were making fun of the Democrats for not coming out and talking to the guy with the zip ties.
