In Oregon, servers get whatever minimum wage is, tips are gravy on top. I believe Washington State is the same way. In idaho the wage is 3.35 and tips are combined in with the employer making up the difference.

If service goes above and beyond whats expected. yes. Pretty much my standard is if my soda/water runs dry, then you are not going above and beyond whats expected. Especially if i have to ask for a refill.
Same with any labor or delivery jobs. If you go above and beyond expectations, ill probably give you a healthy tip. |

You know who this really hurts? People currently making $15-$20 or so. Their buying power is about to get wiped out, because they're not getting any raises now, and the resulting inflation is effectively gonna cut their standard of lifting at the knees.

Some people like RMAs and mechanics make about that and went to school for a trade, certificate or associates degree too. Thats sucks. |

Even with a $15 federal minimum wage, wait staff and tipped service workers would be exempt so they'll still be making $2.13 per hour.
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) allows employers to pay workers who customarily receive tips less than the standard minimum wage as long as certain conditions are met—but the rule's applicability has been diminished by state laws that set higher minimum wages or ban subminimum wages altogether. Under federal law, employers can take a tip credit by paying tipped workers, such as servers and bartenders, as low as $2.13 an hour if those workers earn at least the standard minimum wage of $7.25 an hour once their tips are added in. If you eat somewhere where the servers customarily are tipped and you don’t leave a tip, don’t eat there again unless you like spit in your food.
|

This will likely hurt tipped people as they make more than min with tips especially if it isn't taxed.

My daughter makes $5 an hour plus tips. Most service jobs that typically receive tips are exempt form the minimum wage laws.

We are pretty good cooks here.
We will eat at home a lot more. |

SOOOOOO, I may be wrong on this.
Minimum wage is there for: a new to the market employee to learn learn job skills and better themselves as their knowledge and education increases? Basic platform until one has proved themselves a capable employee. |

Around here 90% of all working people are paid less then $15 hr.
No fucking way this is going to work |
|
Just remember everyone making 15 dollars now will be making at least 22 the next day.
The guys making 22 will go to 29. And on up the chain. All the union contracts will change too. Their wages are not going to stay the same if everyone else goes up. Prices on raw materials and building supplies are going through the roof even as we type. Pvc, copper, steel, concrete, lumber, etc. |

I won't stop tipping, I'll stop going. With a $15 minimum wage, restaurant prices will nearly double. I'm not paying $80 per person for a restaurant meal. $12 Big Mac here we come.....

Quoted: I totally believe in tipping to the service level as locally most waitstaff make $2.xx/hour. If they start making $15/hour, the food prices will go up without a doubt. And they will be getting paid to do their job instead of earn their pay. I will most likely not be tipping anybody making $15/hour. View Quote My thoughts as well. |

With a $15 minimum wage(in any industry, not just service) will come layoffs, less people doing the same work, and of course the real goal...
The ability to blame businesses for their evil greed because they raised prices to stay in business. Blame business to raise their taxes and redistribute wealth. |
|
It's a stupid custom, and fuchs be upon the restaurant owners who subsidize their businesses from the shame of their customers for the treatment of their own employees.
|
|
I'll tip the robot that replaces them for finally making a burger that looks like the picture on the menu
|
|
Well, let's think about this.
Does the 15 dollar an hour raise go to wait staff? If so, does it affect my cost for food? Finally, since I'm used to paying a "lazy tax" for eating out and being served, and when I do go I tend to find a few places I like a lot where the wait staff get to know me... I like to tip them well so that my service is better than average. So yeah, you can make the argument that service should be better than average without tip, but given the way tipping and wages have evolved in this country... Not tipping for good service is just being a cheap POS. Don't want to tip? Fix your food at home. JMHO ymmv |

Quoted: So supposedly the new stimulus includes a minimum wage hike which got me thinking.... I don't think I would still tip if they no longer rely on tips. I dont understand how leftists can't comprehend consequences of doubling the minimum wage.
Nothing happens in a vacuum. |

I’m pretty sure they banned the service industry because covid.
|
|
After the meal prices go up a ton and the servers are getting 15 i will not tip a dime
|
|
I doubt I'm going to be eating out much if my bills are double.
One thing about Covid, is that has rekindled my love of grilling in the backyard. I had forgotten how good a piece of steak you could buy, for half of what they charge you for a mediocre one at a restaurant. |

Tipping in restaurants with $15/hr employees will be irrelevant. There will be no $15/hr restaurant employees. Because there will be no restaurants. Because they can't afford $15/hr employees
|
|
As it is right now, service workers who get paid tips get an hourly wage that is less than even the established minimum wage. If that exception is removed from the law and service workers get the same hourly wage as any other worker then I do not see the point. The purpose of tips was to bring the wage up to at least minimum wage standards.
I may be 58 but if she is hot then yes of course |

Quoted: Same. $15 isn't exactly beach house money. Everyone needs to make a living. IMO if it's good service and you can afford it, tip. View Quote If the cost of the item exceeds the value received, I don’t buy. I don’t care what someone else is making. If the tip/meal cost is higher than its value to me, I reduce the variable expense (the tip). In other words, that stack of pancakes is not worth $30 plus a $6 tip . |
|
The people making $15/hr now will expect $20, and so on. My daughter who's working as an LNA before heading to nursing school will now make the same as someone handing french fries out a window. Small town cops will now make the same as the chick that they buy their donuts from. Then the morons that support this initiative start wondering why everything is so expensive.
