If they were really worried about armed people showing up, why would they put themselves out in the open, no spacing, no high ground, no place to run or hide....oh wait, the ones in charge aren't with them.

Even if they move the Aimpoint back on top, it won't be zero'd. So what's the point in having a rifle? If it was actually zeroed prior, and put back in the same slot it will be good. The current aimpoint mounts hold reattachment zero very well. Do you really think NG has "current aimpoint mounts"? All they get are hand me downs. The one in the picture is the latest version. Both the CompM4 and CompM4s have the same mount. Only difference is battery location. |

No idea why he don't want to use the optic. But no doubt he's just storing it there because he don't want it on the rifle. No I don't think he's stupid and thinks that's where it goes. I've seen GI's store carry handles there before.

The Army’s actual adjustments for FY 2015 were $6.5 trillion – 54 times what it was authorized to spend. Actually I would disagree with you. The Army has been busy modernizing the guard for some time now. those reports you cite you have absolutely no idea on how they're built. surveys are conducted at least two years out, and then the report is published, data in those reports was most likely from 2013, hence the 7yr comment. Second the guard is considered an operational force not a reserve Force that change was made several years ago. Many units are scheduled to go in and out of operational rotation along with the AD, just for ADs, their cycle is shorter. So it may seem like the guard doesn't get a lot of money but they actually do in the general scheme of things. Its how its distributed. As for most guard and Reserve units , they go through an operational cycle of at least 6 years whereas in their 5th or six year they usually get mobilized to go somewhere. Active-duty units generally go through a period of 3yrs before they are sent. There's always some DOD element vying for resources, and it's based on your op tempo. |

The amount of ignorance about our military and the weapons they use in this post is staggering. It really shows how ignorant most people really are.
I guess this is the beauty of the internet is that people recite things like they are facts and have done not research or fact checking before they post it. I served on active duty as was out for 10yrs, when 9/11 happened I was in my early 30's so I decided to go back in, I joined the PA Army National Guard that January or February, and I am still serving. My battalion is currently in DC right now. I will gladly answer any and all misconceptions so many of you have about the National Guard. |

I have to say, I'm a bit concerned about our National Guards in this country.
This past summer I saw the California National Guard on videos and a lot of them were wearing non-issued airsoft level coyote brown plate carriers. Every National Guard unit I've seen is this mix of OCP and ACU still. The ones in D.C. though are by far the most overweight I've seen yet. True, they are layered due to the cold, but I saw one woman with what my wife said looked like size 22 pants on and a guy behind her who had to be a men's size 40 or 42. How can someone get that big and still be in the National Guard? I'm not saying that to be mean or disrespectful, it's an honest question. Also, what is up with logistics? Why are they still using M9 pistols? Didn't the US Army start taking shipments of M17s years ago? How long does it take to field the new pistols? ACU rucks and assault packs still? How long ago was the conversion over to OCPs done? I don't mean to be negative to men and women who I feel serve this nation with distinction and are a credit to this country, but where are all our tax dollars going? Largest defense budget in the history of mankind and they're rolling in old gear with old weapons many overweight some obese. We can't afford nutrition counseling and gym membership for these NG folks? |

View Quote That modernization is apparently going very slowly. I mean, I'd argue that's probably true for the entire active duty military as well. Either that's on our procurement systems and logistics or this nations lack of manufacturing capacity (probably a combination of all those things). There definitely needs to be a greater emphasis on the National Guards and the Air National Guards, which as you rightly point out are treated like an operational nearly Federal force now. They're a pretty vital component of our national defense strategy. The massive amount of Defense spending we do and it just seems like everything is painfully slow when it comes to modernization or we just continuously start from zero over and over. Such as the failure to modernize HBCT components like a new tank or APC. The painfully slow roll out of the F-35. The decades and decades delay of the USMC's new Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle. It all looks like the Pentagon is really a mess right now. Is our military getting what they need both in terms of material and support for its personnel? National Guard don't typically have access to base facilities right? So, are they completely on their own when it comes to physical fitness expenses and nutrition? What have they been doing when local gyms are shut down around their State due to COVID? Does anyone in charge even care about these questions? |
