Seems like arguing about safety was a lot bigger deal then than now.  It's basically impossible to buy a pistol that's not designed to be drop safe now.

That was a form of firing the M16 taught by the USAF in the early 1980s.  The M16 was advertised to us as a weapon that could be fired from the shoulder or the hip.  I am more concerned about the cross draw situation on his belt.  I am a big fella and I would have a difficult time accessing that revolver with my right hand if I had to reach too far from the center line.

I hated working on legacy Smith autos.  When I was hired we issued those.

Of course I own a few now for collectors' sake.

Yup, almost exactly.

You can buy a colt 6920, right now, for $1300, even our panic prices are better than the old timey ones.

I certainly understand inflation, but looking at the other weapons he bought around that time for more than $200.00 I'd say he could of invested it better!

I'm the one that never bought several cheap weapons when I worked at a LGS...makes me sad.

But back on topic, this is one of my favorite threads going! Not near as depressing as others and I have already enjoyed it thoroughly!

I have a GB....I didn't hunt it down but when I saw a nice one in the box locally 15 years ago for a good price...I picked it up....the inner 80's teen in me remembered this ad. it also goes well with my AUG.

few years ago I noticed the russian bad guy in The Peacekeeper carries one..which surprised the heck out of me

I use to send away for the HK catalogs as a kid(1978 was the 1st year for me)....I am pretty sure I have collected the whole 1982 catalog.... and probably a few other years. In true form(for me)...I also latter collected the catalogs themselfs

our house inside and out(including our cars) is a living museum to all the things(besides Farrah Fawcett and Erin Gray) I thought were cool as a kid....thankfully I had good taste as a kid and also took the old saying  to heart " if you find something you like buy two, because they will surely stop making it"

I just learned something new ^

I swear so many guys talk about how it was easy it was to get a machinegun back then and how they wish they had gotten some, etc...makes guys like me think they were all over the place and how I missed out

Pre-internet for good information and pre-trust mechanisms to get around CLEO signoffs NFA stuff was somewhat rare.

A lot of the "fudd" assumptions about NFA like "that means that the cops get to search your house at and time" or "you have to pay $200 a year tax for each of those NFA licenses" were taken as gospel by most shooters back then.

No freeloading...

I recently found a bunch of original American Rifleman magazines (NRA obviously) from the early 1930s. Some of the articles discuss new firearms legislation in the works.

Man if I could only go back in time and write some letters to the editor. They're pretty interesting though. They have some of the self defense stories they still have today. Just a little more Wild West. The ads and classifieds in the back are pretty interesting as well.

Doable, but pre-internet there were (and still are) a lot of myths involving NFA floating around.

One of the biggest was you gave up your 4A rights and LE could drop in at any time and do a spot check to make sure everything was stored correctly.

You also had CLEO approval issues.
