I'll shoot for 35 by June 1. Currently 219.8. Overall goal is 50# to be below 170.
I'm starting today, though...if I put it off another week I'd need to lose 55# at the rate I've been going the last month. |

In. 5' 11" 247 this morning. Goal weight is 199 so we'll aim for an even 50 lbs by June 1.

Put me down for 60 pounds. Working from home has wrecked me.
I hit my ATH a few weeks ago, 275 @ 6'0". I've been afraid to get back on the scale since then. My goal is 195, but we'll see how the first five months goes. |

I'm in.
I had lost about 30 pounds and then went in for surgery last January and gained it back during my recovery and afterward. But, I've run out of excuses now and need to lose it again. Need to cut out the garbage food and walk the dog more. |

If you're waiting until Jan 1, you're just setting yourself up for one more ride on the roller coaster that's likely to end in failure.
The best time to plant a tree was years ago. The second best time is today. The worst time is someday in the future. Get after it, or don't, but for most people NYR's = cheap talk. |

Sooooo.... 2 pounds per week = in the hole 1,000 calories per day 3 pounds = - 1,500 cal/day 4 pounds = - 2,000 cal/day The problem here is that there's the assumption that 1-pound of fat = 3,500 calories, which isn't accurate (and no one really knows where that myth came from). Also, as you decrease your food intake (unless you totally fast), your basal metabolic rate decreases. Meaning: calorie-counting can only work for so long. If you start at a BMR of requiring 3,000 calories per day just to exist, and then you cut your intake to 1,000 calories/day and you exercise you ass off, within a few weeks or months your BMR will decrease to something like 1,200 calories per day (and you'll be cold all the time). So, aside from totally fasting, cutting your food intake won't help you in the long haul because your body adjusts how much food it uses to exist. That's why fasting is so helpful: your BMR doesn't drop, and sometimes it actually goes up. The 1000 miles in 2020 thread for bicycling kept me motivated and contributed a lot to me being more consistent on the bike. I won't make 1000 miles, but I made way more than I would have without the challenge thread.
Maybe this thread will do the same for weight loss. I'm going for an even 50 lbs. I need to lose a lot more than that, but 10 lbs a month is reasonable. |

For those that are seriously interested in losing weight... I have some advice for you that is based in reality and it’s free.
All the special diet, fad, gimmick bullshit is just that... bullshit. Here’s what you do. 1.) Eat less food 2.) Eat healthy, whole foods 3.) Exercise (even walking 1 mile a day) 4.) Eat your calories, don’t drink them I lost 80 lbs in 7 months doing this. No keto, no atkins, no px-90, no jenny craig, none of it, not even a gym membership. Just ate less, drank water only, walked / jogged 7 miles a day religiously, skipped rope for 20 minutes after lunch. 7 days a week rain, snow, or sleet. Went from 220 to 140. You don’t need anything special to lose weight beyond will power and dedication. |
|
I’m in, but starting on the 4th of Jan.
I’m 6’2”. And right now tipping scales at 228. Want to be 195 to 200. So let’s call it an even 30. |
|
Tried this last year, got from 226 to 200 by leap day, then lost motivation and covid hit. Was 196 yesterday. Could easily enjoy loosing another 20, could afford to loose 50.
My first epic diet (many years ago), started at 190 something with the goal to get to 170 something. It became a bit of a lifestyle issue for a few years and I did not weigh myself much, but got to the low 150's before my fiance decided it was not a healthy diet for me and I went up to 235. FWIW was sitting at 218 until November. Fucked up my blood sugar and had to go full Keto to get it back under control (think I started around November 15th). Most of the weight loss was from diabetic ketosis though. Fast way to loose weight, as long as you don't go into a coma and die. |

I am in. Goal is 175. Current weight is 202. My journey will start on Jan 2.
I already walk 10k to 20k steps a shift at work 3X a week. My plan is to cut down on carbs and change my lifestyle. I already cut milk out of my coffee which wasn’t easy. But every bit helps. |
|
I am in for 30. I am currently 6'2" and about 250. I take medication that is heavily laden with steroids so this should be fun. I need to do it though.

There is way more to human weight loss or gain than simply saying 3,500 calories = 1 pound of fat... or saying 1 pound of fat = 3,500 calories. There is one particular forum member here who I have butted heads with numerous times in just about every GD fatty thread. His mantra is calories in, calories out. Or simply put : CICO . Additionally, I am thinking his mindset treated all calories the same. It didn’t matter if you ate 5,000 calories per day of Twinkies or 5,000 calories of bacon and eggs. If you had a caloric surplus, you gained weight. If you ran a caloric deficit, you would lose weight. The last GD fatty thread we had, I did finally come around to see things his way. But still, in my mind, it is a gross over-simplication to say CICO. I do agree with it from this perspective : If you don’t eat it (or drink it) in the first place, you don’t have to worry about burning it off . Which is the brutal honesty version of the catch-ier phrase “you can’t outrun your spoon". Like your video link, there is a dogma to nutritional science. The hormone leptin was only discovered in 1994... just 26 years ago. Leptin regulates hunger or a hunger response. The hormone ghrelin was only discovered in 199. EDIT: 1999 It causes you to feel hungry. Soooo.., what a lot of people think is settled science, really isn’t . |

Mark me down for 30. I started yesterday. I walked 9 miles this morning and ate some eggs and leftover Christmas ham ham for breakfast. For lunch was a handful of almonds and celery. Dinner tonight is grilled chicken and Romain lettuce salad.
Starting at 245 and I’m happy at 200-210. |
