We also signed the Ottawa Treaty banning anti-personnel mines. So we re-classified them as "defensive charges".

Hahah that's a cunning plan!

French army are now calling them "Counter Clearance Mines". "See mister treaty? That's not some AP mines but they will explode if you touch them or if they detect any kind of magnetic field".

I was at Ft Bliss in 1984 when they were testing the Sgt York, with an ROTC trip. Sure looked impressive, and to us younger idiots, though it seemed like an American version of the ZSU 57 2, but a good way to recycle old M48 hulls that ere still good, save money in a peace time cash strapped military. However, it was a complete failure.

Someone actually went to The U.S. Army Transportation Museum and studied the surviving VN gun truck and history during the early part of OIF, meanwhile the GIs in theater were already improvising "Bubba" Armor

I'm a history nut and was familiar with the Gun Trucks and supply convoys in Vietnam and the lessons learned. Before the factory made kits started showing up I had been beating my head against the wall asking; why are we having to start from scratch, why weren't we prepared for the mission?  How many people died before the up-armor kits got to theater? It's a shame that we throw away the lessons from previous conflicts so quickly.

<End of rant, now back to our regular scheduled programing).

Wow, I wonder if those boats and all the ones that weren't detected by Sweden were shadowed by boats from NATO countries who didn't share the intel because well, Sweden isn't part of NATO.

We worked together with NATO to keep tabs on what the Russians did in the Baltic, but above all we had bilateral arrangements with the US.

The NSA provided us with the high-tech gear we needed, and in return we fed intel to the US.

The Catalina Affair is the most publicized event, but it kept going throughout the Cold War.
