Greatest tank of the post-war era coming though!

It's my patriotic duty to post the S-tank.

Damn it must suck to be so poor you have to buy your tanks one part at a time.

Did you ever manage to buy the turrets?

This is HMS Spiggen. A midget submarine that was used by our SoF and for adversary training.

Turrets are ghey, they make the tank too tall.

This could have been the S-tank of the 21st century, if only the Soviets could have kept the Cold War going for a few years. Alas, she was too pure for this world.

140mm main gun, secondary 40mm autocannon.

Built by Caterpillar, get that thing going full blast and it would start bouncing. No steering as such, 2 big hydraulic pistons just like earth moving equipment.

If you didn't like somebody, say a stupid 2Lt, just hit the bilge pump and they'd be covered in rusty dank water.

God help you if the hydraulic steering locked up, that usually resulted in a rollover.

Thank God for Reagan and Oshkosh for the HEMTT!

Yeah, I’m no tanker but seems like a bad idea to have to move the whole chassis to line up a shot.

Sure, no turret gives you a lower profile but it comes at a cost.

86'-88' for me with a RATT rig in the bed and pulling a trailer with a couple of generators on it.

Every Monday morning did a preventive maintenance write up on it.  Dry rotted tires every single time.  Never got new ones.  Finally replaced it with a Humvee in 88'.

There were a few years where I expected anti tank missiles to advance to the point of losing the turret and gun completely and firing missiles up like a boomer submarine

Ok, I can see that argument but I think of tanks as the ability to roll down a city street and I sure wouldn’t want to do that in THAT

And as mentioned, I was not a tanker but I did train to kill them for 6 years and I would rather be shooting at that thing than a regular tank. Even though the main gun doesn’t pose much threat a coax in a turret could.

I did put a new set of tires on mine, split ring, tubeless, and somewhat of an odd size.
Or I should say I tried to put a new set on, they were wrapped in plastic and somewhat flat, being flat did not add to ease of installation being tubeless.
Finally one of the young motor pool guys had mercy on me and told me to stand back.
Sprayed ether around the inside of the tire as best he could while it was on the wheel, took a couple steps back and flicked a match at it - whoomp - quickly put the air chuck
on it and vola - seated tire.

I did the other 5.

Its been argued for a longtime of whether they are tanks or tanks destroyers. Sweden calls them tanks so I guess they are tanks.

I thought I posted about these not long ago here.
I remember seeing these at Lewes beach naval station in deleware, late 1960s when mom took me to visit my Dad there.  Last place he was stationed.  Was a SOSUS station
I recall these things being painted overall haze gray.  And they looked huge to a 3-4 year old

Later saw one a couple years ago in some junk yard in some tiny town (if you could call it that) down in TN near the Cherokee National Forest.

I think one of these would be cool to own.  Best fishing vehicle ever?   Just drive to and then into the lake or river.
