Started off the morning of the derby with a breakfast julep before walking down to Churchill Downs.

I got bent over at the liquor store for the Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and Blanton's. I don't want to talk about it. I did get a store pick Russel's Reserve single barrel store pick from Kroger for $45, which I was happy about. Closing in on the finished product for dinner. New to bourbon, had this last week and enjoyed it so much I picked up a bottle. Any comparisons between this and the 1910? Are they similar?

If you'd like to try rye OF Rye is a highly underrated bottle imo, especially at around $24. |

I think it's a little softer to sip if that makes any sense? Not that Single Barrel is bad or anything, but maybe I just don't have the palate for it. Small Batch seemed more complex/flavorful to me. |

So I saw where Cumberland County ABC was opening a new store, and advertised 350 to 400 things not available elsewhere. So I decided to take an hour of leave and check it out. Article here.
Got there at 1055, and the line was out to Rose's. But we all crammed in at 1100. Attached File No Blantons or Weller SR (ETA: or Sazerac, which I really wanted), but they had a few Buffalo Trace products behind the shelf. Limit one bottle per customer, so I may try again after work to get the father in law an Eagle Rare. I know it ain't much, but I'm just happy to grab some of what amounts to unobtainium, here in North Carolina. At MSRP. Cheers. Attached File |
