I love OGD114, and have rarely seen Mellow Corn, which I've heard also punches above it's weight.

OGD114 is a nice spicy pour.

Swung by the local store and grabbed the last bottle of EHT BiB and a bottle of Sazerac Rye. Also picked up a bottle of OF 1920.

I threw my back out last night after drinking my first bourbon.

People shouldn’t drink and take Advil. I’ll be drying out for the near future.

Started off the morning of the derby with a breakfast julep before walking down to Churchill Downs.

Also picked this little guy up at Buffalo Trace. No rational reason to stand in line for it, but I did anyways.

One of the mint juleps I made for Derby Day with Henry McKenna 10 year single barrel. I think it’s covered in preschool curriculum here in Kentucky. Washing your hands. Tying your shoes. Making mint juleps.

1/2 oz of simple syrup
Muddle 6-8 fresh mint leaves in the syrup
2 oz of Kentucky Straight Bourbon (I like100 proof)
Fill glass over the top with crushed ice
Garnish with mint sprig

Never seen it before.

Why do the labels of bourbons from other states often remind me of affliction shirts? 🤔

I met a guy who swears by it. I didn't care for it too much. Cask finished is not my thing. Also I didn't think it was worth the $135 it goes for here.

Just picked up a couple of bottles of the Woodford double oaked based on this thread. Plenty of Weller and Buffalo Trace on the shelf, never ever any Eagle Rare around here.

Double oaked will probably forever be one of my top bourbons. It's one of the few I find myself craving

Yes, and no. I have a newborn and she will not allow competition.

Also, there is a hickory lump shortage in the area, which is what I prefer to smoke with.

I got bent over at the liquor store for the Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and Blanton's. I don't want to talk about it.

I did get a store pick Russel's Reserve single barrel store pick from Kroger for $45, which I was happy about.

Closing in on the finished product for dinner.

Sliced belly goes in the beans

Ends get sauced and burnt

While the butt rests.

It's been awhile since I fired up the smoker, but I'm happy so far.

Nice work. That stuff looks great. I haven’t done a brisket in a couple months.

ETA: I know that’s not brisket. Brisket just happens to be the last thing I smoked

New to bourbon, had this last week and enjoyed it so much I picked up a bottle. Any comparisons between this and the 1910? Are they similar?

I'm not a huge bourbon guy but FWIW, I've tried the 4R Small Batch, and currently have a bottle of 4R Single Barrel...and I prefer the Small Batch. I think it's a little softer to sip if that makes any sense? Not that Single Barrel is bad or anything, but maybe I just don't have the palate for it. Small Batch seemed more complex/flavorful to me.

So I saw where Cumberland County ABC was opening a new store, and advertised 350 to 400 things not available elsewhere. So I decided to take an hour of leave and check it out. Article here.

Got there at 1055, and the line was out to Rose's. But we all crammed in at 1100.

No Blantons or Weller SR (ETA: or Sazerac, which I really wanted), but they had a few Buffalo Trace products behind the shelf. Limit one bottle per customer, so I may try again after work to get the father in law an Eagle Rare.

I know it ain't much, but I'm just happy to grab some of what amounts to unobtainium,  here in North Carolina. At MSRP.  Cheers.

Thank you. There is a certain enjoyment from tracking down something hard to find, but I would rather be able to pop into a store an grab whatever I'd like.

And to be fair, there's always Ancient Age on the shelf, I just haven't ever picked up a bottle.
