Quoted: I'm often camping by myself as basecamp for dirtbiking trails. Often where I basecamp there's a sliver of cell phone coverage, but not enough to really send or receive texts. Twice last summer my wife had issues where she couldn't contact me. So I decided to get a WeBoost Drive Reach cell phone signal booster. I installed mine today and came up with a mount using RAM ball components. That was I could lower it when driving, and raise it when I'm at camp. https://i.imgur.com/ThagbUk.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zcfU6D1.jpg https://i.imgur.com/BtYJKsT.jpg View Quote I've been wondering why I keep seeing trucks driving around with pear burners sticking up next to their headache racks Attached File |

I've never had an issue with Maxtrax. I've got I think 12 of them between my vehicles and our other employees. They stay on my roof or bumper 24/7, zero fading and no signs of becoming brittle.
We've tried a few of the cheap knockoff trax and so far they have faded and become brittle when left out on the roof. I've heard good things about some of the more expensive alternatives. |

Some friends and I, including @103 have been on a couple Overlanding trips. Essentially just car camping, although we were a little more serious on our last trip to the Ozark NF over New Years. Lots of water crossings and mud pits, one of which took out 103's Ranger's alternator. But not before he pulled me through one of the more treacherous water crossings. He's a good friend for sure, hooking a 3yo truck to my 21yo Tundra because I was worried about getting stuck.
Lots of stories to tell about that trip. Here's a video my cousin made. This covered probably less than half of our water crossings and not even a tenth of the cool stuff we saw and did. I think my Tundra is in 4wd in maybe 1 shot. Oldsters Overland HIGH WATER MARK TRAIL 2021 |

Wish I would've known about this thread earlier. I just purchased (remotely) a 2016 Ram Rebel that will be used as a mild overland/bug-out/daily driver.
This is my first actual truck. It doesn't have real rear lockers but has an electronic LSD with anti-spin. It also has 3.92 gears and I planning to put 35" General Grabbers on it. Currently has a tire brand called "Eldorados", dealer probably just found the cheapest 33s they could find and threw them on. I pick up the truck in March when I get back to the US and will drive from Ohio to home in TX. Attached File Attached File It's no Power Wagon, Raptor or Gladiator but should be a good start. We will see if it stays. |

I got one of the new self-supporting 270 degree awnings from Overland Vehicle Systems. To go along with it, I picked up a new Roofnest Condor XL. These are mounted to my new Prinsu racks. View Quote A friend of mine got these from his wife for Christmas. He hasn't used them yet, but he commented they seemed really nice, and also have replaceable metal spikes on the ends, similar to my MaxTrax Xtreme. If I were to do it over again, I'd probably go with the ActionTrax over the Maxtrax Xtreme, simply because the Maxtrax are stupid expensive. |

This weekend I learned the importance of having lots of recovery gear. I carry 3 straps with loop ends, 1 snatch strap, 6 shackles, 1 snatch block, a winch line extension, and 4 recovery boards. I had to use everything I had after my cousin wrapped up his trans cooler line in his driveline.
Attached File It took many hours of snatching and winching to get him up to the main road so I could drag him 20 miles to asphalt. We were down in a hole when this happened so I had to get him out with his vehicle being totally dead. It was a great learning experience and nobody got hurt, so all in all it was a successful trip. |
