Found this pic just now of grey steelies on the same truck I have. I like it but I think black will look better.

If I change my mind I’ll use the paint you suggested.

2012 SR5

2013 Trail front bumper
2014 taillights
RCI engines, oil, tranny skids — gas tank is next
Fox 2.5 RR fronts rebuilt by Brave Motorsports to Accutune specs
Rear Fox 2.0 RR Accutune shocks
Toytec SuplerFlex 2.0
Camburg BJ uppers
Front sway bar delete
285/70 Falken MTs on TRD Pro wheels
Rago MOLLE rears and center console
Rago rear shock protection
Rago CB mount
OPOR sliders
Gobi Stealth with laser
Custom rear deck with drawers and hidden area — need to be rebuilt
52qt Fridge/Freezer
Kenwood deck powering MTX speakers
Trail reminders all over.

And since I’ve saved a ton of money because of the WuFlu, a Shrockworks rear bumper will be ordered soon. And maybe gears and ARB locker with dual compressor. And a dual battery kit with solar.

2020 Pro in Army Green here.  Only mods I have done are tint, raptor lights, and sprintbooster.  That pic is from the day I picked it up, so it doesn't have the tint.

Mods that will be coming in the not-too-distant future:

LoPro bumper (C4 or SSOR)
Light bar(s); one in the bumper itself, maybe another mounted on top of it.
Warn winch
RSG sliders
RCI skids to mate up to the TRD one
New roof rack (gobi or SSOR probably)
Maybe a headlight upgrade.  I did the H9 bulbs and high-beam upgrade already, but maybe a complete unit like an AlphaRex or something.
Diff breather
Some sort of custom enclosure for my JL12W6.  I find the JBL system in the 2020 to be extremely underwhelming, and I can correct it partly by installing the same sub I have in my e46

I’d really like to set it up like this thing, but that would be down the line a bit.  I need to research what sort of negative effects I’d have from a lift, etc. like that.

Mileage right now isn’t great, nor is acceleration.

Part of my concerns are practical, part of them technical.

On a practical note, I bought the truck as a sort of “go anywhere” vehicle.  Right now, I’m somewhat confident that it could tackle most anything aside from serious rock crawling.  But I would like to do stuff like Black Bear pass in Ouray.  I’m not sure how a setup like this affects that.  Basically, I’m not sure if it’s all show and almost worthless otherwise at that point with the spacers and the lift, etc.  I know that white truck has a 4inch lift on Kings and is running 35s (315/70/17s) with 1.5” spacers.

On a more technical note, I’d like to know how it affects systems like crawl control, atrac, and the locking rear diff.  On one level, I have concerns about whether the systems will continue to function as they’re supposed to and in another whether they’ll hold up from the additional stress.  There’s more rotational mass, a different geometry with the lift, etc.  How much additional stress would be put on the other components in the system in order to look cool, which might effect long-term reliability and result in premature parts wear?

New to the T4R side but it appears after hours of research that the magical target is 3.5" with BMC and trimming to run 34's or a flavor of 295's. That should enable you to go wherever you want and not have to necessarily regear.

The silver one is on 34" KM3s, sitting right about that 3.5" height with the BMC. The red one is about 1" over stock with 32" KO2s.

Debating on the Eibach Stage 1 Pro lift for my 2017 TRDOR, but I'm unsure what the threshold is for KDSS becoming an expensive liability after a lift. Specs are 2.75" front, 1" rear lift. I'm assuming that UCA's will also be necessary with that much front lift.

@HighLighter

I went with Wet Okole covers too and have been happy with them.  They fit very well, not perfect but better than any other cover I've used. Also, if I recall correctly they will replace any panel that gets worn or damaged for $15.  Plus, they are made in the USA.

varies IIRC.

The rule of thumb I'm going with based on endless threads on the 4runner forums is that 3"+ needs em, 2.5"-3" might or might not.

YMMV seems these are all unique and different trucks behave differently with lift variations.

I had a 12 Limited and traded it for a 13 GX. Liked the 4Runner ok but I love the GX. No mods other than a Yakima rack, but when the Michelins wear out I’ll throw on some all terrains.

The 4Runner is as aero as a house in a wind tunnel. You can get good mileage but you have to drive carefully. The acceleration is due to the drive by wire throttle and the programming Toyota did, which can be bypassed by a couple gadgets out there such as the pedal commander. Personally, I'll be getting the Hyper-Tech React Off Road model as it has settings for crawl and mud/sand. Supposedly it helps limit the throttle blipping one can do in such situations and makes it smoother -- its hard to keep your foot steady when bouncing off shit.

With a set of sliders and good tires, you can tackle Black Bear or any of the high pass roads in Colorado pretty easily. Skid plates would help but I wouldn't say they're 100% necessary in those areas. With a lift you will have to be a bit more cautious as you moved your COG up so tipping, even if just a feeling, is more prominent. This is why you want to keep heavy stuff off the roof.

I can't answer for MTS (crawl control) but the A-TRAC in my truck doesn't seem to be phased by the bigger and heavier tires. But I also use it in short spots where necessary as it does heat the brakes up making fade a factor. I'm not a fan of slotted or drilled rotors but I think they might help in this situation to help dissipate the heat. I haven't done it yet but it has crossed my mind. The locker shouldn't be effected at all by larger tires.

I have a wheeling friend who has deep gears, locked on both ends, and runs 37s. He's had to replace a few parts but all the stock gizmos work fine for him. It's truly a beast of a truck. With is front locker on its like hitting the Easy button.

What I would like to do... is change the interior from the mid-line up. It drives me crazy that the outside is all tan and black, meanwhile the interior is black and gray.

It drives me nuts that it doesn't match.

Installed some Apex recovery points courtesy of @jafrush.

Went ahead and painted the front skid black.

Snuck out and hit the gas line down the street, was rather dry but had a few "creek" crossings and some hill climbs, can't wait to hit some real trails.

ordered some Dobinson UCA's.

Should get rid of some light high speed twitch I get with the steering.

I've never bothered with UCAs on my 4Rs when lifting them, because after adding the weight from metal bumpers and winches and the like they end up being at roughly 2" over stock, which is still in the good zone for the stock UCAs. I've always heard that anything over 3" needs new UCAs, looks like you're right around there or maybe a little more from your photos.

My GX470 has Dobinson UCAs, its right about 3" over stock; it drives really well. Well, it did driv really well until I swapped the wheels out last week, once I get these KO2s re-balanced it'll drive well again...

Looks great! I ran the stock steelies on my FJ Cruiser for 5 years, albeit I welded rock rings onto them after a few years. I run beadlocks now.

What tire size are you running?
