I have been debating over which to buy.  The Carbon-15 is about 100 bucks more but it weighs a heck of a lot less.  Not that that really matters.  I wanted to hear from people who have used either of these guns and hear what they have to say about them.

Thanks

the Carbon 15 has gotten mixed reviews on the boards here.  M17?  An M4gery might be a better choice,  more accessories available, and combat-proven.  Bushmaster does not make junk.

I would want the M17S Bushmaster.

Assuming you already have an AR15. I would get both. First the bullpub, then the Carbon-15.  Have you looked into any 50 BMG rifles? [:)]

The bullpup is a nice piece. I am working on a carbon 15,seems interesting. Wonder how good it is?

Well I like the 50BMG but I dont think I could find one in my price range.  Which sad to say is rather meager at the moment.  Maybe I just buy both.  Sounds easier.

teh bullpup looks a little flimsey and fake on internety pics, but in person, their is no question that it is a fine bushmaster firearm. feels real solid too.

I own the M17s, it is a great rifle, I have never fired the Carbon 15 so really can't comment on it. I did just build a very light AR15 and its fun to shoot but the M17 is much more accurate and shorter even with the 21.5 " barrel. It is heavier but the weight centers pretty well. I like my M17.

There's just something about the carbon receiver that bothers me.....seems like it would wear out after a few thousand rounds!

Can the BM Bullpup be used left handed?

The reciever is a non stressed part .It would take more than a few thousand to wear out.Its stronger than the aluminum it replaces.Besides its self lubricating.I have one and it works.Broke a extractor on a Wolf round and they had me a new one fast.Good customer relations as far as I can tell. They have redisigned the bolt to take care of the problems they were having.

i have a m17s at kurt's kustom right now-

when it comes back it should weigh ~7lbs and be about 28" oal. have retracable 'layflat' charging handle an a picatinny rail on top.  as well as handguards and alot more ventilation holes.  going to dedicate my gen2 holosight to it.

Armalite Fan,

If the carbon receiver is better than aluminum why does it get mixed reviews on this site.

I'm not trying to down it. I have held one and it's sweet. I thought about picking one up but the receiver scared me off.

Why do you think they build multi million dollar aircraft out of similar material?

A while back (12-18 months) SAR did a review of the M17.  The author liked it a lot.  If you call Moose Lake Publishing, you can probably get a copy of the article.

CDNN has a couple left (Carbon's) for $599.00.

No shit.
Damn good price for a rifle that if you ever have so much as a PIERCED PRIMER you are going to be left without a face for the rest of your life, because that "carbon fiber" upper will shave it off as it blows up.'

I'm a FORMER owner of a Carbon-15 rifle and I can tell you from experience, that there's many other rifles I'd rather spend my money on...

The carbon-15 is a nice looking gun, but thats the only nice thing I have t say...

The lightweight is great until you fire the gun...
Ever been jabbed hard in the shoulder with a broomstick ???
same sensation...
My rifle was new out of the box and never ran 100%...
Stovepipes galore...
E-mailed Proffesional Ordnance...
Reply 1 week later: "send us your upper & bolt/carrier assy."
I don't care to send gun parts away, so I got rid of the gun...
Replaced it with a Bushmaster and a MAK-90...
I'm much happier, Both these guns shoot 100 %...
You would think a Carbon-15 at $1000+ per gun would have ALL the bugs worked out of it...

I'll never buy another...
Just my 2 cents...

I'd go with a bullpup. I've fired a 10-22 and a AR-15 in that configuration and despite the outwardly awkward appearance it was easier to keep on a 90 degree plane. It didn't have that tendancy to 'tilt' while firing. It's a very efficient way to use the entire reciever/barrel without adding unneccesary length.

The Carbon 15 have a new redesigned bolt and carrier. It is suppoesed to fix all there problems. Apparently the carriers were made of inferior materials.

Carbon 15 sucks.  Non standard parts and too pricy.  It you are looking for a light rifle, try the Olympic Arms FAR15 (Featherweight).
Check it out at http://www.olyarms.com.
THe Bushmaster Bullpup I found to be a bit heavy but it functioned great.  I liked mine but had no use for a bullbup.  It was a preban model and the stock and forearm were made of aluminum - possibly bringing the weight up?

i used to have one. it felt good and shot decent. trigger was HORRIBLE with long, heavy, straight back pull. plus gas would come out of ejection port right up in my eye and irritate it. cool self cleaning gas system though.
