As the country deals with the delayed execution of Timothy McVeigh, we look at the gun of choice for many militias across the U.S. — Monday at 8 p.m. ET “MSNBC Investigates: The .50 Caliber Militia.” http://www.msnbc.com/news/537370.asp

"Meet dozens of extremists fighting an undeclared war on the federal government, with one of the most deadly weapons on earth on their side."

I suppose anthrax, a tank, a mortor, or a nuke roughly equals the firepower of a .50 cal.

That was pathetic...

I watched the video clip and it looks like they are gonna get into the Bob Stewart and Maadi Griffon issue.

Love when they talk about the Maadi Giffon as being "a *relatively* cheap version of the rifle used by military units in Desert Storm."

Little do these assholes know that the Barret M82 was a rifle designed for sporting use first and then adopted by the military once it was found out how impressive a firearm it is.

Boy, don't hold your breath hoping for fair and unbiased news reporting.   Atleast once a year we've gotta hear about the "ban the 50" stuff on the news and how it makes anybody who shoots it some sort of super sniper who can nail a person from over 2 miles away as if it's as simple as tying your shoes.

Those news idiots are just afraid because even the armored limos they ride around in won't stop a 2700fps 750gr AP.

Sweet Jesus, now you mean I gotta buy me a .50?

Well, I've always said that military calibres and arms were the only way to go.

If you were arming the slaves inSpartacus you'd get 'em a Roman short sword, right?
And a spear and shield? Right?

So it goes without saying, you either get you a Barrett, or a really good friend with a Barrett.

Kinda' like a swimming pool, a Hummer, or an RV?

You don't need one, just a good friend with one.

Old media ploy, if there's no lunatics killing anyone with a particular weapon they feel we(civilians) shouldn't have access to(do they think we should have access to any firearms?), then bombard the airwaves with bullshit investigative reporting on a non-existent threat to the public and sooner or later some lunatic will decide for himself that's the weapon I'll use to get even with the world! Next thing you know, another weapon is on the must ban evil gun list.

Yeah,  It's a pile of Crap.

A .50 will set you back about what a machine gun  costs now-a-days ($1200 for an AR Upper = a MAC, $8000 for a Barrett = an MP-5). Gun owners buying from dealers get the same checks as MG owners do (without paying the $200 tax)--there are private sales of .50's, which don't happen with MG's.

But the same logic applies to .50's as to MG's--very few, if any criminals are going to spend $1200, $2000, $8000  on a gun to rob something.

And, I got news for the Media--the hot thing in long distance marksmanship is about to hit the market.  It's called the .408 Chey-Tac.  It is being covered on the Barrett board, where one of the experts there is involved in the testing.  It is a round that stays SUPERSONIC past 2000 yds.  Which means accuracy doesn't degrade as quickly.  Most rounds drop below the speed of sound at 1500 yds or less (including the .50's--they aren't terribly fast, just heavy) and they loose stability.  You are talking a round that will hit in a 12" circle at 2000 yards from a good gun and with a good guy behind it.  It will obsolete the .50's (and the .300 Win Mag, and the .338 Laupa) for any kind of anti-personnel use by the military.

The antis have been talking about banning/regulating the awlful 50s for awhile.  I had a big argument with a 50cal shooter at the Pomona, CAlif Great Western Gun about his gun being an assult weapon etc, and he said that he didn't want to get into the politics of gun control.  I guess they are going to get dragged into this thing political thing kicking and screaming whether they want to or not.

Its gotta make you laugh. I am only waiting for the day they decide to go after 12 guage slugs and 50 caliber muzzle loaders.

Yep, I keep telling everyone it's the agenda...  Got keep these things in the public awareness.  Make a problem even if there isn't a problem.

Sad to say, they will most likely win in the end too.  The advantage of time is on their side.  Just ask the "average"(whatever that is...) American about their opinion of gun control.  The intelligence level of Joe Sixpack is not to be overestimated.  They don't call TV the idiot box for nothing.

Yeah, this is one of the most stupid things I've ever heard.

Like do they tell you how expensive the gun and ammo is?? No. Do they tell you that there is not one 50BMG that is concelable?? No. Do they tell you that almost all of these guns are heavy? No. Do they tell you that no one in the USA has ever been shot by one in the commission of a crime? No.

My only guess is they are trying to help fuel the DiFi bill that gets presented ever year and goes nowhere.

What I would like them to go after is DiFi and her resubmission of the same bill year after year and her connection the Di-China crap. There is some real reporting in this stuff.

Paranoid thought for the day:  Constant media exposure of these rifles will eventually get to a well-heeled nutcase, who will then purchase one and go on a shooting spree.  Self-fulfilling prophecy on the part of the bubble-headed bleached-blond "news" anchors.

They can't WAIT to say "We told you so".

Precisely how many 'cops' were killed with 'cop-killer' bullets, before the media was talking about banning them?

Probably the same number of x-ray machines at airports through which the 'invisible plastic' Glock passed through undetected.

Yeah, I used to think federal judges would be at the top of any 'must do' listing. I think that media types should be moved to the front of the line.[:D]

This is ridiculous. If people were really running around causing problems with .50's It would be simple to stop.........just look for the 7' 00" tall guy with no neck and arms the size of telephone poles wearing a trenchcoat with a canoe strapped to his back.... Why don't they talk about something that makes sense. Simple clear laws that are written as the are to be enforced and enforced as written. And an escalating penalty structure so if you don't get the hint we don't like your law breaking ways at least you go away for a longer time each time your caught.

Oh well they do it to get viewers.........

What pure propagandist baloney! Take the subject of .50 caliber guns and an ATF raid on Bob Steward and Maadi-Griffin, add the word Militia, talk to somebody from those militias of a few years back, then mention Timothy McVeigh and Oklahoma City and you've got a story? No. A fabricated lie! Most .50 caliber shooters are hobbyists that enjoy spending lots of money on a few rounds of ammo but that's not sensational, is it?

A Comic Appeal to everyone of financial means:  Please stash as many .50 cal Barrett M-82s as possible now so that the underprivileged (me) can later buy them off you when we scrape up the funds.  I will pay 15% appreciation.

Try to get a bunch of RCBS 4X4 presses with the .50 cal conversion too!!

BUY.  I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH.  BUY.

Ustulina,

You kidding me!!  Those guns, if they are banned will appreciate MUCH faster than 15% in the first year.  A $6k Barrett will go for $10K by the end of the year.

Look at full auto's vs. semi-autos of the same vintage (say a Colt M-16 vs. an SP-1).

The anti's goal is not criminal control, the common ordinary person can own any gun, just as long as "they" control it.  Have you ever asked yourself why the antis have not gone after and controlled the 22LR?  Because I think they perceive it as a non-threat. What can an itty-bitty 22LR do to you.  Criminal control is part of the media “spin,” it is just a side benefit if it happens, but their main goal is control of firearm by the ordinary citizen.

"When the government fears the people, there is liberty; When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." -Thomas Jefferson

People are more afraid of the government now than vice versa.

Notice how they keep bringing up the limousine crap? It is obvious that these anti-gun weenies are only interested in protecting each others elitist asses because they are afraid of the day when the people finally get fed up with their socialist bullshit.

By the way, the RCBS Ammomaster is capable of loading .50 cal, not the 4x4.

Here are some nice contradictory quotes from that dumbass waxman.

Rep. Waxman: “We aren’t trying to ban it. We just want to make sure that the kinds of people who buy it are going to have it and use it responsibly.”

Rep. Waxman: “If I had my druthers, I’d go further than legislation. I don’t wanna see some people with this weapon at all.”

Rep. Waxman: “I don’t think everybody has a right to a weapon that can be used to kill innocent people and maybe threaten the life of a president of the United States

I just watched that piece of yellow journalism. IMO the ones making sense were the gun owners and militia, and the paranoid ones were waxman and the atf. That guy tom diaz from vpc takes the cake with his loony running around d.c. saying "look a sniper could be there!".
