I'm not crazy about the look of it.  The only thing I like about it is that it is taller than the WTCs.

Oh, and there should be two of them.

First impressions, having never seen or read about this new design:

1. The spire on the tallest building is impressive.

2. The odd angles of the rooflines on the other buildings make it look like they're frozen in the process of collapsing. I'm guessing that this is the intended effect, but it's a little too sentimental and defeatist for my taste. Acknowledge the tragedy, yes, but don't use it it to set the tone of the NYC skyline for the next hundred years, for Christ's sake!

I say put a 9/11 memorial and maybe a park near ground zero, but use the new buildings to say something about America's future, instead of its past.

I dislike those, too.

Very observent point about them looking as if they are falling down.

I would have preferred two tall towers, as well.  Or better yet 3.

If they rebuilt them taller, would you be a little concerned to work in them?  I think it would always be in the back of your mind.

They dont look like they are falling down to me. They look like they are looking up to the spire on the tallest building...just my .02

I must be the only person that thinks it looks great. It futuristic looking, but like said, there needs to be a park and nice memorial.

I wish people would quit referring the idea of freedom in this country for monuments. First lets actually get that freedom back from those tyrants in washington before we go around preaching about freedom. Freedom is nothing but an empty word if we don't have it. This country is falling and all those dickheads can do is continue fooling people into thinking they're free.

I don't think as nice as what we had.....

I refuse to call it the freedom tower- how gay-- are the designers french or something???
I haven't heard anyone that really liked it.

I like the main spire. The rest is awkardly out of place.

The name is hokey. Karl4sniper makes a good point. Paying lip-service to "Freedom" while we seem to have less and less real freedom "allowed" to us is almost an insult.

If there is going to me a memorial park, put it on the roof of the tallest tower.

I think it would show defiance to terrorism, be cleaner and quieter up there, and give a feeling of being closer to heaven.

Houston and Dallas called.  They want their skyline back.

I like the look of the largest tower. Why not build two of the large towers.

I don't care for it either. It doesn't say anything about America's ability to rise up from a tragedy. It ought to be bigger, more massive, a great big FU from America, "you tear it down, we will build it back, bigger than before" It should have some memorial as part of it's construction, name floors, rooms etc. after those who died, put a memorial and chapel in the lobby. And what's with the 1776 height? 1776 had nothing to do with the tragedy. Make all the surrounding buildings 911 feet tall and the mail structure 2001 feet tall.

They're not going to please everyone, and if they sit around waiting for everyone to approve it in committee they'll never get anywhere.  I'm glad to see some progress, whether or not I like the design.

I wonder if the top transparent portion of the tallest tower is intended to be occupied or not.  I hate these goddamn architectural mass models that try to use the material to stand out from the context.  The ultimate materiality of this thing is going to be critical to the way it stands out on the skyline.

Of course, it would be too easy to simply re-build two similiar towers using up-to-date codes and building practices.

Oh well.

I like the suggestion that the buildings should have nothing ethereal or mournful about them but should instead broadcast in ringing tones "Uncle Sam says '[red]FUCK YOU JOHNNY JIHAD[/red].'" If they're going to use the depicted design, I hope they'll at least put a gallows in a roof garden on top of the spire.

They need to put a HUGE American Flag on the top of the spire or as Hillary would want , the Hammer and sickle . I think they look aweful , to neo European like.

Supposedly only the first 70 floors will be occupied office space. As you can see in the pics, the top third of the building is empty framework.

Oh looky, somone knocked down two buildings to build the "tallest" building in the world. Things that make you go hmmmm.

i think the spire will come in handy. we can put osama's head on it when we catch him. It's also long enough for a few others. A nice bloody al queda heads on a pike display would look grand over the NYC shyline.

I like it.  The tall tower sort of looks like a woman's middle finger, with a long fingernail.  And the name is great.
