... Anyone else have a business slowdown in December? In the field I'm in, I usually do but seldom get to take "extra" time off. This year has been extra cool. I was able to take off the whole month, not having to return to work until 01/05/04.

... Do you get a long Christmas vacation? I got lucky this year  ...W00t

Must be nice! They begged me to carry over some vacation days, but I took them anyway. I'm off (besides the actual hoildays) this Friday, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and the 29th. The 28th I'm going to a football game and I know that I'll be out partying late that night...so I took the next day off.

I used to be able to take off most if not all of December - the nature of my former job was such that I could "shuffle" stuff to facilitate such a long absence.

Now it's hard for me to be away from the office for more than a few days at a time.  My "Christmas vacation" this year will be a 5-day weekend.  I'm grateful for that, but I wouldn't mind it being longer...

I have 12/25 and 12/26 off, then 1/1 and 1/2. Pretty standard schedule, but I'd rather have 12/24 as a holiday versus 12/26 and I'd rather have 12/31 versus 1/2. The reason being that the family goes to candlelight services on 12/24. I'm not religous, but I see going to church that evening as a family thing and a present to my mom, so I'd rather have that whole day off to spend with the fam. And I'd rather have 12/31 off so that I don't have to wake up early for work and also so I could get the party started early.
I used to take a bunch of vacation time around the holidays, but since there usually isn't much business going on this time of year, I think its better to come in to the office and read the paper or waste time here lol. As long as the boss isn't watching! And this year I didn't have much of a choice since I already burned up all of my vacation days earlier on some epic trips, so I'm not too disappointed.
Anyone else?

So many people were taking off the day after Christmas that they decided to close the office on the 26th.  The tradeoff being that we have to be here all day Christmas eve.

I work from 2300 hrs to 0700 hrs on Christmas eve night, then turn around and go back in at 1500 hrs on Christmas day. The same for New years eve and day. Every Thursday is a turn around day for us and we just happened to get screwed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years this year.

I just get the standard plus shipping picks up at the end of the quarter so I only was able to sneak in a couple extra days of vacation to go Elk hunting.
