My bet: put on trial by the Iraqis, either the governing council, or held until we hand things over to them and then tried.

From what I have heard, he will be tried in Iraq. It wouldn't do our cause much good to try and help build an 'independent and democratic Iraq' and then not trust them to try their own former dictator. While we have a vested interest in the guy, keep in mind that it is the Iraqi people who lived and suffered under this guy for 35 years. They should be the ones to decide his fate.

My only concern is that I think they have outlawed the death sentence. I would hate to see him get imprisioned for life only to have some loyal to him break him back out in a few years. That would be a tragedy.

My vote would be the for a quick run through the shredder, feet first, just like so many of his 'countrymen' suffered. Pig fucking would be a close second, but only if they hung his body from the lamppost like they did Mussolini towards the end of WWII.

Of course, severe torture for WMD info would happen before any of the above situations played out.

Then we need to bring in some specialists from Israel.

Just last week the Iraqi Governing Council put together the legal mnachinery for war crimes trials for just such folks as Saddam and his henchmen!

I would imagine that we will soon be seeing a 'Nuremburg Trial' scenario for these POSs.

There is little appellate procedures that were incorporated into those legal procedures, and the possibility of capital punishment is prominent in the details!

I think that within a year, we shall see Saddam swinging from a gallows.

Firing squads are not the preferred method of execution in this part of the world, and we should expect to see a rather swift and [u]public[/u] execution by hanging.

Much more satisfying that merely seeing his statue toppled!
