You didn't happen to actually read that article, did you? I see nowhere in there where there is a ban on gun ownership.

Based on the experiences of other countries – this sure seems to be an odd way to address over-population issues. Crime is all but guarantee to skyrocket, but good luck to ya anyway Brazil!

Brazil already has some of the strictest gun control in the world and yet has the highest per capita gun murders. Funny how the antis never talk about Brazil, only Britian and Japan. And now Britian is starting to change.

Ban on all new sales by 2005

There is a clause in the law that gives them the option of completely banning gun ownership in 2005, if they decide to do so in a little over a year. Guns are not banned, nor is there a law which says they will be at some future point.

.. Not very likely. Brazil has more guns per capita than us I believe.

It's just as well. Brazil should concentrate on what it does best, making hubba-hubba Amazon titties. [;D]

I'm talking about LEGAL guns. What makes this stupid is that every Rio gang banger and his brother has a gun. CRC

No, the article doesn't say that either. "A referendum will be held in 2005 on whether to ban gun sales outright." "In October 2005, a national referendum will ask: 'Should the sale of arms and munitions be prohibited in Brazil?'" Both are DIRECT quotes from the article you linked. Nowhere does it say that there will be a ban on gun ownership or sales. It doesn't even say, one way or another, if the referendum will even pass. It's only a referendum.
