It must have killed the guys at Berkeley to find this out !

Teens More Conservative on Some Issues

It may surprise some people to learn that today's American teenagers have more conservative views than older generations on prayer in schools and abortion.

A brand new Gallup Organization (search) study and another out of the University of California at Berkeley (search) found that teens are more likely to be in favor of government restrictions on abortion and prayer during official school activities.

The findings mark a departure from the perception of teens as more progressive and liberal than adults, especially during protest-filled decades like the 1960s and '70s.

The Berkeley study suggests that while 59 percent of adults 27 to 59 want public schools to permit prayer at commencements and other official activities, 69 percent of teens support prayer during official school events.

And while 34 percent of respondents older than 26 supported government restrictions on abortion, 44 percent of those aged 15 to 22 and 32 percent of those 23 to 26 said they supported limitations.

Researchers and pollsters say the numbers could be due to a re-emphasis on religion and a more conservative voice coming out of the White House. And not everything has changed: The same studies show teens are still more liberal than adults on issues like same-sex marriage and the environment.

My prayers are being answered. Hitler had the right idea for changing the future of his country, he went after the youth. To bad his ideas were so wacked! But his methods for change were great. If you can get the younger generation thinking right our nation has a chance.

As a 20 year old, I can say this has also been my experience, but I live in a conservative area. Pretty much the only young liberals I know are clueless bitches or faggots, which there aren't many of around here.

More religous, yes, more conservative, no! I bet that if they were asked if they thought 'nanny state' socialisim was a good idea, they'd have said yes. In my eyes, this is the worst of both worlds--The religion of the right, combined with the socialist thought of the left.

I agree to an extent. I'm glad that the youth are more and more against abortion, but I would really like to see them as being more pro-capitalist, pro-gun amongst other things. All that environmental stuff is socialist to the core. [pissed]

The real test for them is waiting at the university level. That's when the HARDCORE indoctrination begins. I went to a liberal arts college. It was insane there. Gender studies and all that crap. But I was 24 years old and already set in my ways. I gave those idiot professors hell. One goofy broad was romanticizing being an indian squaw one day because she said it was a "matriarchial" society. Huh?!?! What gender was the cheif then? And who did the hunting, protecting and smoking of the peace pipe? I told her that if she had been a squaw, she would have been hanging out in the teepee watching the younguns and using buffalo brains to tan hides. Goofy broad. God help the kids who have to go through the educational system today...

It's true. Most of Bush's harshest critics and the anti-war people are old folks. Can't quite say if that is good or bad.

Think about it....who is more likely to abort a baby, a Conservative or a Liberal? I reckon their beliefs are catching up to them....

The long-term consequence of this change in generational political philosophy is economically dangerous to the soon to retire Baby Boomers. This next generation of voters will realize they are taxed more than any generation before them so their grandparents can truly be golden in the 'Golden Years'. They will rebel at the greatest generational transfer of wealth ever seen in this country. They will organize to erode the entitlement mentality that forces them to work longer hours for less take home pay than their grandparents. Instead of their parents and grandparents leaving them a better economic future, it will be worse. Once they figure it out, a future election night will be the political equivalent of 09/11/01.

My own older boy (19) registered Libertarian, and as you all know, believes that "gun control" means having exclusive access to the place where you buried your SHTF rifle and ammo.

This is meaningless unless younger people turn out to vote. Statistics show that Voters between 18 to 25 years of age have a very low voter turnout, versus the geezers who benefit most from government largesse and have the highest voter turnout.

Don't worry, I won't be running. And, (I think) you misunderstand the meaning of why I referred to Hitler. He was wise in going after the youth of Germany when he did. You cannot change the mind of somebody who is a working, homeowner, taxpayer, but you can influence the mind of a child and change the fate of an entire generation of people. Change the mind of the people you will steer the course of an entire nation. Basic and largely generalized, but true nonetheless. I'm not glorifying Hitler, he was a whacko, but he was not stupid. There is a difference. We, (gunowners, members of the "gun culture") would be smart to follow his example. Bring a child to the range, take them hunting every chance you get, and as often as you can.

Great, so they think they should be fucking at 12, but abortion is bad. Great.

I teach high school and I can tell you that in my school the number of students that would label themselves as conservative is much higher now than just a few years ago. I would venture to guess that probably 75% would make that statement and this from an age group that is historically liberal. Get them to talking about taxes and welfare and watch them get fired up. One other thing that I've noticed is how much they defend the present administration and it's war on terror. They feel a real bond with the young servicemen and women. I never saw this to this extreme when I was in during Vietnam.

I was actually referring to Arnold S, who said something quite similar to your statement, and the Dems tried to pin him down on it. Feel like running for KA guvner? [;)]

Got ya DF. Sorry for the rant.

I can relate to this, being a young college student myself. I just started going to College Republicans meetings, and apparantly, the local chapter has more members then all of the formal liberal groups (College Democrats, Gators for Dean/Clark/whoever) put together.

I am 17. I have noticed many of my peers (in our rural area) are conservative, gun owners. I am not religious. I believe that abortion is aweful, but not a public policy issue. I am against any mixture of churc and state. I am conservative fiscally, libertartian in my social beliefs.
