If I may suggest to avoid the folder if you can use a fixed blade. However, if a folder is what you need and if looking for just a folding blade without gadgets, the custom knives, such as a Chris Reeve, are considered the best but very expensive. For the price, I'd also look into production run knifes. For example an Ernest Emerson production knife similar to the CQC7 with a spearpoint blade or the Commander.

Forget folders and get fixed blade instead. You'll never break a fixed blade unless you really tried hard.

Folding knife ...? For the money, a Benchmade Axis lock system knife. But you need a fixed blade for endurance, just breakdown & buy a Bussie. They offer discounts to guys in the real deal, not backyard warriors.

I have a ka-bar that is going with me but I need something that will also take care if the little things like opening a MRE and If need be use it as a a killing tool if thats the first thing I can get my hand on. I'll have a Ka-Bar and a one of the new bayonets that there issuing out so I should be good on the fix bladed.

I also recommend an Emerson Commander or one of Benchmade's AXIS line-up. I like the ATS34(154CM) steel, which both of these companies use. I personally don't care for serrations, but they may be usefull in your situation. I also try to avoid tanto blades. Shameless knife porn ahead... Tayous1, If you would like, I will loan you my Benchmade 9050 AFO. Use it, abuse it, and loose it if you will. Better to have you use it than it sit in a box. This is a serious offer. IM me if interested. DigDug
