Trust me. You'll run out of ammo money long before that weapon jams.
Witnessed an M16A1 burn thru 3K mixed tracer and ball one day on a qualification range. Guys were lined up with trash can lids full of magazines. No a burp, although you started getting flashback out of the chamber about round 800. I love it when you have to expend ammo instead of turning it in. [:D] |

Is the XM8's claimed 25k rnds in combat conditions, or just sitting on a standard range blazing? Still seems impressive but...
What would be intersting is take them both to the windy desert, romp around on a little course of fire while blazing and see how they both do. |

No offense I was in the Military also,
3000 rds in one day w/no cleaning ? How about lube? I could see if you were squirting some CLP or WD40 in there every so often. Canadian C7 went 25,000 rounds I find that hard to believe. I dont think an AK could go 25,000rds without lube or cleaning. I dont want to start an AK vs AR thread that would be like [beathorse] |

Don't really remember if we lubed it or not, this was 1986. I don't think so.
It also was not my weapon, so I don't know how dirty it got. We did have to stop a couple of times and tap the roll pins back in. I managed to dump 4 30 rd mags of nothing but tracer[:D] |

I put 2k rounds of S&B
No failures of any kind. No doubt the gas piston design of the AK will take more abuse then the gas tube of the AR, take one quick look at the M240G and the M249 for proof, but in REALITY you can't hump enough ammo to burn up an AR. |

I got out around '86 my experiences both with M16's ,M16A1's amd AR15's has been mixed.I love 'em but I hate 'em.
I'm not gonna sit here and compare them to an AK or an M14 or a FAL they're different animals. But,and it's a big but i've seen a decent amount of MALFS with the M16 and the AR.Enough to make me doubt the system. I know I know you gotta have a decent mag,a green folower and good Ammo. Some guys swear they run their AR's on Russian Steel Case with no issues. Go Figure |
