seem to have mustaches? It just seems kind of weird that 90% of the time when you see a guy with a mustache he is a cop or sometimes a fireman.

Well...why is it?
Link Posted: 11/25/2003 1:01:33 PM EDT
i think its because they were not allowed any facial hair then when they allowed mustaches everyone got one??
Link Posted: 11/25/2003 1:03:08 PM EDT
I don't have one, don't know any officer that does. Same goes for the fire/EMS of my acquaintance.

No stach here, but I know a few who do.

Didn't all the Village People have mustaches too?

Garcia, Dangle and Junior have them. Jones don't.

Another stereotype based on fact. It's true, when I started on the job in 88, about 75% of the men on the job wore mustaches. The last few years, it seems that the look is dying off, especially with the younger generation. Me? I'd wear a mustache if I could grow a decent one. I can't so I'll just have to get by on my boyish charm and good looks.

Well, I just got done demo-ing a Magpul stock to two cops that didn't have them either. Maybe my statistics are a little skewed. dave223 hit the nail on the head though, I was watching a little Super Troopers this morning and that's where the question came from [:)] Now, who wants a mustache ride? [:O]

Well, as for firemen, around here they're allowed to have mustaches, but thats it, since their mask wouldn't cover a beard.

Because the rest of the bullies jumped in when the future cop stepped up to defend you? Just guessing... [:D] No 'stache here BTW. Did do the mandatory new Investigator goatee for a while though till the Sheriff asked if I was trying to look like a beatnik or a wrestler. He is just a BIT old fashioned!

I can usually recognize a cop by the style of his mustache, I notice they usually have a thick mustache like "Groucho Marx" or Yosemiti Sam? they dont keep it trimmed to military regulation and goes past the lip line on the edges. also the haircut is different lots of cops have medium length haircuts that doesnt have the "tapered" sides on the sides and back, it's not military regulation but looks more like LE. then some have the military "high & tight" with a mustache that doesnt match the haircut.

and the hair of a beard won't let the mask seal letting in the toxic gases of combustion. We're allowed to have goatees(sp?) if we want.

Actually many agencies prohibit facial hair. Only one person in my dept has one, and he's over 50. I'm willing to be beat up over this comment, but, I think being clean shaven looks much more professional.....JMHO!!!!!

To cover the stretchmarks? (Flame on. Defense available by IM.)
Link Posted: 11/25/2003 10:06:40 PM EDT
I have one but most of the guys in my department don't. BTW most people think I'm military not LEO. I keep my stash very short (like 3 days growth) and my hair in a high and tight.
Link Posted: 11/25/2003 10:11:26 PM EDT
I don't have one, but I'm not a cop so I guess it doesnt really count. [banana]IBTL[banana]
