Quoted: 3D is worth it. View Quote I can do it tomorrow, but everywhere around me is sold out in 3D 2D is available, but when I go to purchase, I get the click this link wild goose chase and then they want to add on more fees just for the "convenience", the one that sucks btw. fuck theaters. there is a reason I haven't been in about a decade, no need to break that trend now. Yes, I'm a salty, grumpy old man. I'll just wait till it hits blu-ray. |

Is it worth seeing in the theater or just watching from the link?

Looks like I won't have any choice but to watch the download. All the local showings tomorrow are at 1pm.

Got a good laugh at the guy that removes his stripes in the bathroom on the ship over to France since NCOs were the highest casualties
ETA: that’s probably the last laugh I’ll have in this film |

Just watched it again.
I remember, as a kid, hearing about a project in the 60’s to record interviews with veterans of the Great War. I wondered what good it would do, who would ever listen to them. Now, hearing them recounting their experiences as narration to this film, I am really glad someone had the foresight to record those interviews. |

Playing local to me at 1:00 and 4:00 pm tomorrow. My wife has no interest but I'm seriously thinking of going by myself. It'll be the first movie in a theater in 10 years or more for me.

Just watched the link.
Wow. Very cool. Wish I would have been able to see it on the big screen. |

For you guys going to see it today, make sure to stay for the 30 minutes explaining how the movie was made. It comes after the credits.

I went on the 17th in 3d. It’s still in my head. Peter Jackson and his crew are absolute artists.
Stay for the post-show with Jackson. Probably the most haunting scene for me was the clip of the guys about to go over the top at the Somme. Once enhanced to lifelike, you could really see the ranges of fear on all their faces. From playing it off to near panic. All those dudes trotted off to oblivion shortly after the film. Really crazy. It’s not a documentary. If you are a dick n butt stickler for “proper” history, you’ll be back in this thread going “reeeeeeee”. It’s not meant to teach you about anything except a rough outline of a British soldiers life joining in 1914 through the armistice. |

I got tickets for 4pm I'm front row, but I got tickets. Going with my mom's husband.

Just got back from the 1pm showing. Very Very good movie, I’m glad I got to see it.

Just got back. Good watch. It's only rated R because of the blood and dead bodies, and some dudes pooping over a log. PJ said he was making a film by a non-historian for non-historians. It really focuses on the front line British trench soldiers. He had 100 hours of film and said he had to pick a focus, no planes, no Navy, a few tanks. I will get a copy for my high school aged kids when it comes out.
The jokes about British teeth are based in fact. |

His whole point it to try and get folks interested in the war and to get them researching to see if they had any relatives in it. The detail theyw ent through for accuracy was very impressive and although I am not at all a fan of colorizing old movies I get why he did this and the results were impressive. |

Watched it today at 4pm. Had the shittiest seats available ( front row complete on the right )
Movie was fantastic and Peter Jackson was a bit awkward to look at/listen too as he was a bit insecure and also man, he is huge. Really needs to lose 50 pounds. Regarding to the movie, some people left after it was done and did not watch the 30+ minute "making of" afterwards. That was also extremely interesting how they were able such clear video from almost completely black stock film. The woman working on engines and the howitzer scene were simply amazing. I give this at minimum an 8+/10, likely more an -9/10 Absolutely WILL get it if they ever sell it on BD. PS: The above link is just the movie. The making of is missing there. |

Just got back from seeing this.
Absolutely amazing. The after-credits 'how it was made' was cool. There were some parts of noticeable CGI/editing, but overall it was very good. . . You could really tell Peter Jackson was passionate about making it. I knew he was a history buff, but I didn't know he actually owned cannons. . . My only complaint was that I wished he had done some more scenes with the French, and had done scenes with the Air Corps, Navy, Americans, and Russians. |

View Quote It was certainly a turning point in armed conflict as all combatants resorted to brutal measures to kill the opponents. Technology was now making it much more possible to kill the enemy indirectly and completely indescriminantly. And as history has now shown, much of the conflict in the 20th and even 21st century can be linked back to the Great War. |

The 30 minute film about how it was made was very interesting.
My favorite part, when discussing the sound effects Jackson talks about his owning of WWI artillary pieces and sayes, “as one does.” |
|
|
It was funny to hear all the "ohhh's" and "ahhh's" when they showed the original overexposed/underexposed footage to the remastered version.
|
|
The additional 30 minutes also answered the question, "Why Peter Jackson?" The obvious answer is his and his team's skill with special effects, but the real answer is because of his passion for WWI.

Tried to watch it yesterday, was going to go with two buddies. One blew me off entirely, the other wouldn’t get back to me on his availability so when I decided to go myself all the tickets had been sold already.
I need new friends apparently. |
