Quoted: You're going to want to look into "repairing" the IMEI of your nighthawk to match that of an iPad, as most carriers have been killing sims in non-approved devices. AT&T took out most tablet plans using a nighthawk probably about 6-8 months ago when they purged a bunch of their iPad plan users. Mind you, you can still DO it, it's just a question of how long until at&t locks the sim unless you modify the IMEI to that of an approved device (generally an ipad). Its not hard, search for a program or service offering to "repair" your imei. View Quote Or you could just give him the name of the damn program instead of being cryptic, this isn't Facebook. Its called DC-Unlocker. Download the program, buy 30 "credits" on their site, and then repair the imei to that of an lte iPad. |

FedEx just showed up. Not sure if I'll have it connected tonight. Want to run the wire through a conduit I buried just for this, and not just lay it out on the ground in freezing Temps. I'll wait for tomorrow.

People that put in after me by months, actually got on the private beta as testers a while back. I'm talking literally the property owner adjacent to me put in at the September, and has had it since the first week invites were sent. I'm not sure what the rhyme or reason is of who gets picked or not. I'm currently pulling wires through conduit and hopefully will have it set up shortly if I don't die. Metal roofs, a foot of snow, and darkness are not a good combination to mount a satellite dish. Might have to wait for morning to climb up on the roof when the ice melts. |

Quoted: Is there anyone on here that has been picked that's NOT in MT? View Quote Lots of Montanans since we have 4 ground stations. A moderate amount in Idaho and Washington. But, I'm pretty sure Montana is ground zero as we have a lot of non-used easily accessible fiber where they can build ground stations easily. I know a lot of invites went out this week in the Idaho panhandle as the Sandpoint groundstation apparently went online this week. The satellites are not being interlinked, but are just a satellite repeater back to the ground. So, the easier it is for you to see a satellite and it can see a ground station, that's what they seem to be working on right now as the system is being built out. In CONUS Montana is the most undeserved internet state. By speeds and choices, and per capita. Being at a high enough latitude to cover the entire state, it seems to be a good starting point. I love in the largest town of my county, I can't get phone internet. I can't get dish TV. Sirius xm satellite doesn't work. We have no over the air TV or radio stations. I'm lucky to get more that 2-3 down and less than .5 up in the middle of the night when no one else is using dsl. I don't really give twos fucks about people that have multiple choices for internet but just don't like them. I give a fuck that I can send a 4 meg off file without 8 attempts because there is no bandwidth. Or am able to to do a hangout in person meeting for just a minute a month, because I can't even connect to those without driving half a mile away to get phone service to just call a meet up. All you people in the second most populated state in the country have to wait a bit. Enjoy your cheap gas. Were back about 2.60 a gallon of gas. |

Extended outage with Starlink last night. The app showed odd messages I hadn't seen before about finding satellites and handshakes.
Afterward I ran a number of speed tests and the peak speeds were astonishing: 294.91 378.69 257.40 Average speeds hover around 150-220 - but prior to today I haven't ever seen peaks so high. Ping is 40ms-51ms consistently tested on 4.2.2.2. |

I bet that if they're doing this with so few ground stations and such an incomplete satellite network so far they'll be able to reach their stated goals (100% uptime 1Gbps and sub-16ms pin) at some point. I'm delighted with anything north of 10Mbps and uptime over 75%. The services out here before this were just awful. |

Finally got the starlink set up temporarily.
Attached File The bottom test is from the closest customer to the DSL shed. About a mile from where I'm located. I might get half that on a good day. The middle test is Verizon from direct line of sight to the tower. I rarely get service where I live. The first test is starlink. Have not experienced any dropouts or downtime yet. |

Wondering if anyone here is on Hughes or Viasat and uses Zoom or GoTo Meeting successfully? Is the lag/delay bad enough to make it unuseable? |

So my 4GAS account is about to finally expire, was a good thing for the past few years -- unlimited and no throttling for $85 a month on the TMobile network.
Looks like after 1JAN that all goes away and now it'll be like $150+ for 200GB and then throttled. I tried the new TMobile and Verizon home LTE and neither say its available in my area, even though I'm using TMobile currently. StarLink is not an option yet. Soooo, without reading through all pages again, anyone have any ideas? |

Is there any way to get AT&T or T-Mobile to allow sign up for their Fixed Wireless (AT&T) or Home Internet (T-Mobile) plans even if their website claims it's not available at your location?
The coverage map for both networks indicate that my location has solid 4G LTE and even limited 5G. What gives? If not, anyone know of any viable alternatives that run on or resell either of those networks? |

You can call a certain number at at&t, its posted somewhere in the last couple pages, and ask to sign up for their post paid unlimited tablet plan. Occasionally you'll have to talk to a couple different reps to get one that knows about it. You'll need a valid LTE tablet IMEI to sign up, this can be obtained in a couple ways. Once you get signed up and get your sim, you'll need to put it in an LTE modem like the Netgear Nighthawk M1 and use a program called DC Unlocker to change the imei on it to match the one you signed up with. |

Gurus -
I've got my Calyx hotspot with the T-Mobile SIM and it works well on WIFI and tethered to USB. It's a crappy hotspot with no external antenna jacks. Two issues: 1) I'd like to connect it to a wifi router (TP Link Mesh) via an ethernet cable. I have an ethernet adapter, and I can't get it to work. I plugged it into an old Netgear router. The WAN light turns red, so it "sees" the cable plugged in, but won't pull internet bits. I looked to see if there is a setting in the router (Alcatel) and if there is, I can't find it. Any ideas for a temporary fix? 2) Am I better off buying another modem and sticking the SIM in there? I understand I'd have to do a little IMEI work, but at the end of the day, I can get something that will allow me to jack into the mesh wifi AND has external antenna. What is the buy once - cry once LTE modem? I don't need wifi capability, no need for a hotspot, just the modem with ethernet and antenna jack. I don't want an antenna connected to the device directly, I need to run coax and have it outside - metal building! |

Quoted: Good thread although I haven't read all of it. I am in a rural area and have been getting by using a Verizon mifi for computer use only. We will be able to sign up for High Speed Broadband Internet through our electric co-op starting next month. It is called Fiber-to-the-Home 0r FTTH (their words). Fiber cable will be run to the house by either an overhead line or underground depending on how your service is already run. There will be a one time installation fee of $100. Here are the plans offered. Data Use is Unlimited. Residential Lite 100MB Internet Service $49.99 per month Residential Premium 1GB (1000MB) Internet Service $79.99 per month Their Modem rental $4.99 per month I plan on using two TVs and a computer all at the same time. My question is which plan should I get? View Quote I hate you. For the record. However, which power co-op? I'm on Fairfield Electric and they seem to hate progress. But they keep the power line right of way clear and I rarely get an outage. |

View Quote It's a brand new company owned by Tri County and our area will be the very first people to get this service. Power company has been setting new poles and stringing wire around here all summer. Their service areas will eventually cover Orangeburg, Calhoun, Richland, Lexington, Sumter, and Kershaw counties. Project will take three years to complete. Look here to see if they will come to your area. https://www.tricolinksc.com/ |

Their projected coverage map is still south of me. I'm in the upper NE corner of Richland County.

I lost the link/info to the $20 AT&T tablet plan.
Anyone got the current info (or a page number in this thread). I went back several pages and don't see it. Thanks! |

So I called Centurylink yesterday inquiring if they had any discounts
available for a long term customer. My shitty, intermittent, 5MB DSL has crept up to ~85.00/month. They basically laughed at me and said sorry 'bout yer luck. I have zero other options at my address even though I'm in town. So I gave T Mobile a call. The guy that I spoke with said they would need to send someone out and check the signal in my area but he did say I was right next to one of their towers...I'll also say this...the customer service agent spoke very well and was helpful as hell. I have my fingers crossed !!!!! |

I had no idea T-mobile and the others were offering home internet plans until I read about them a few pages back. Thank you all for posting about them, and luckily at least 1 out of the 3 (T-mobile) is offered in my neck of the woods, so I bit.
I went from paying $85/month for my local WISP at 8 Megs to $70/month with OTR and spotty ATT service usually around 16 Megs until my "unlimited" account was suspended for overuse earlier this month. Got my T-mobile home internet modem in over a week ago, and couldn't be happier. For $50/month I get steady 40-50 Megs DL and 20-30 UL. I know it's not what you Starlink people are seeing, but this is plenty for us and keeps up even when both kids are console gaming, me and wife are both on separate virtual work meetings, and Arf is being surfed in the background. Thanks again for everyone's input and experiences. Spotty internet was always the single drawback of living so far out, but it seems this is a pretty good solution at least until Starlink makes its way further south. Even then, i may stick with this if it's still meeting our needs for $50. |

Dear member of our OTR Mobile family, Thank you for being a valued customer! We appreciate your business and strive to provide the best possible service to meet your needs. Our goal is to be the leader in flexible mobile internet service that fits your on-the-go lifestyle without the hassle of contracts or credit checks. Due to current provider changes, we have been forced to discontinue our Blue Blast plan. This will affect your current service. However, we will be sending a new sim card at no charge to avoid any service interruption. The new plan will be the same coverage area you have been using and is designed to be more stable and dependable. No action is required to be sent a sim card but as soon as you receive the sim you will need to insert the sim into your device. A tracking number will be emailed as soon as your new sim card is shipped. The sim will come with an adapter, you will need to remove the old sim card and insert the new sim card. This new plan will come with a price increase. However, as a courtesy, we will be leaving you at your current rate until February 1,2021. As of February 1, 2021 your price will be $109 per month. Customers who do not want to migrate to the Blue Evo plan you MUST CONTACT US directly by Live Chat or by phone to discontinue service. While we make every effort to keep our prices low, our costs are tied to the rates of our carriers. Providers do charge for access to their networks and we are subject to limitations they place on the access we provide to those networks. The value we provide to our customers is always our top priority. Value isn’t always just price. Value also includes the quality of our networks and the effective and efficient customer service we want to provide to you. We are committed to providing you the most flexible service at the best value possible. Thank you for being a part of our OTR Mobile family and happy holidays. Sincerely, OTR Mobile View Quote |

Those smart people, here probably already knew this, but I am using Verizon at the moment, and it's better than HughesNet, but I'm holding out for Starlink.
I can get 20Mbps down and 10 up from here, which is not awesome, but adequate for what we need right now. We hope to get on the Starlink beta by March, and will certainly be an early adopter once commercialized. My nearest neighbor up the road got Starlink 2 weeks ago and he loves it. He said his kids have asked questions, but he's let them think they are still on Hughes data capped plans. Anyhow, I'm on a Verizon plan that deprioritizes my data "in times of congestion", and I've never bothered to learn what that meant until now. It means they slow your data to a crawl if the tower is getting hammered. There's only one Verizon tower we can hit here east of Sandpoint, and its 4-5 miles from here and not line of sight. To complicate things, my house is partly underground, partly covered with a metal roof. (more on that, later) So, I had to get a booster antenna, mount it to a tree and run the coax through the wall to the booster and interior antenna. Incidentally, that was $400, but completely worthwhile to be able to walk in and use the cell phone. I'm essentially living in a Faraday Cage. Back to the subject at hand. I have a modem I use with a plan that has deprioritized data, and it was hitting over 20mbps in "off peak hours", but dropping to less than one during the day and around 8pm. Baffled, I was. My wife arrived with her phone and it wasn't doing the same thing. So, I switched the plan to a "prioritized" plan for an extra $10 per month this morning. I rebooted everything, and boom! I'm at about 15 right now, same as the phone. I don't love that speed, but I can do work zoom calls with it and watch bad shows online, so I'll take it. Anyhow, I'm sharing what is probably old news for everyone, since it was NEW news to me. Going from a $35 plan to a $45 plan made a huge difference, definitely worth $10 to me. Still looking for the magic starlink email... ETA - I just ran speedtest and got 13.5 up and 4 down at 0900 on a workday. I'm happy enough with that to call it good and let the Hughesnet subscription fade out in a few days. |

My Tmobile phone gets 95mb at my location while my new OTR AT&T plan seems to have dropped to 30 from the 60-70 I got with the 1st sim. Hoping to get that same 95mb from the Tmobile modem. Saves me $20/month as well. Might clone the imei to my Nighthawk if there is no speed penalty, so I can travel with it. |

I'm running the Mofi4500 and finally started using a gaming router for the wifi instead of the onboard setup. Speeds jumped from 15-20 to 27-32 immediately. Streaming on the Apple TV in the basement is much better now too. I'm going to shorten my antenna cable today sometime. I'll see if that makes a difference as well.
I guess I can see now how the guys on the LTE Hacks FB group poopoo on the Mofi. I'm sure ar DIY setup could be assembled for much cheaper than a Mofi. Oh yeah, I'm jealous of you guys with the 50+ download speeds. Really envious. CHRIS |

Dear member of our OTR Mobile family, We have been working around the clock the last few weeks sourcing and shipping new sim cards for the customers affected by the Blue Blast plan being discontinued by the provider. However, with the holiday season, some customers may be delayed due to holiday volume and the shipping providers being closed on New Year's day. We do understand this means you may lose some days of service and will be reimbursing you for days without service due to shipping delays. To take care of your reimbursement as quickly as possible, please respond to [email protected], as soon as you receive your new sim card. Again, we do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Sincerely, OTR Mobile View Quote |

AAF experts....computer illiterate and need help.
Moved to a great property up on the mountain 3 months ago. Have an ATT cell tower 1/4 mile away and full ATT service. No internet options out here so I bought an ATT WiFi hotspot with 100GB/mo for $100/mo. Problem is the boys are both streaming for school approx 6 hrs day. Burning through data FAST. What are my options. Started reading this thread but seeing as it’s two months old I’m asking. Would appreciate any advice...more than y’all know. Thanks! |
