Deer - sometimes squirrel

Probably gonna start on the coyotes - This is the first year I've even heard them howl on my club - and I saw 2 this weekend.

Due to the abundance of various game I'm able to hunt all year for one type of prey or another. Deer, Elk, Antelope, Rabbit, Squirrel, Prairie Dogs, Ground Squirrels, Upland Birds, Coyotes, fox, Racoons, Skunks, etc. etc. etc...I'm a WMD so I'm fairly indiscriminate.

I hunt white-tailed deer and some birds like dove, ducks, etc. Have shot many deer with my ARs but usually use a .308.

Deer, elk (if I ever get drawn), antelope (again, if I ever get drawn), javelina, coyote, quail, occasionaly dove, crow, mountain lion (when I get a chance), turkey, squirrel.
We went quail hunting recently and there was a TON of lion tracks in the area. Gonna give it a go, lion tag in AZ is only $11.00 and lasts all year.

The most dangerous animal of all....
Link Posted: 11/20/2003 1:58:52 PM EDT
As long as Smith's is still in business, or failing that as long as there are abundant 'slow-elk'(cattle), and as long as it is not a SHTF scenario, then I will hunt my game with a credit card and a fork.....like civilized folk.

No barbs at you killers out there, I just killed for sustenance for far too many years to find any 'sport' in it. That was for real subsistance living, not to spice up the normal table fare. If I did not kill it, bleed it, gut it, dress it, butcher it, hang it, and cook it I did not eat. BTW, after two or three big mulies or elk, it just turned into a job....like going to the store in the freezing cold, covered in blood, with smelly entrails all over you....a really sucky job.

Strangely enough, I have developed a soft spot for the big eyed dumbheads.....and the beautiful animals too.

Great Blue Heron
-They are nice sauted in a wine butter sauce. Very agile bird able to dodge bullets exceedingly well. Prefer my AR for the thrill of the hunt.

Bald Eagle
-I like to marinate in Italian dressing.Tastes like chicken but a little more gamey. I have found the best call to use for the elusive bald eagle is a looped tape of the "Star Spangled Banner" being sung by James Brown. Tight choke and 10 gauge preferred weapon.

Chipmunks
- Deep fry in vegetable oil, roll in sauce and eat them like buffalo wings. Great for finger food, and conversation starters, at your next party. Hunt over small fields baited with pecans soaked in Jack Daniels. Slows the little bastards down enough to hit them and begins marination process for cooking. 22 weapon of choice.

Ferret
-These are my favorite to hunt based on scent. They release just enough of that musty odor to keep you on their trail. Release from pet store in mall at midnight, season open until Janine opens Cinnabun at 6:00 am. Silenced .45 makes for exciting finishes when the quarry is cornered.

Parrakeet (a.k.a. the elusive budgie)
-Same rules for season apply as for ferrets, but the parakeet allows for a more leisurely mall hunt than the ferret. I prefer using a 20 gauge at a leisurely stroll. Unfortunately these birds can be quite dumb and are prone to fly into closed storefront windows, killing themselves. Too small to clean, feed to bird dog.

Cow
-The most dangerous of the Nroth American thin-skinned large mammals. I prefer to take at long ranges with my Barrett 50 for my own safety sake. Added thrill from farmer returning fire as you load your kill onto flatbed tow truck.

Beaver
-I like to tackle the beaver and rub its pelt repeatedly. And I ain't talking about the kind that build dams neither!

I hunt but not with guns. Gun hunting seems too much like target shooting to me. Killed a buck last week at 8-10 yards from the ground with a longbow. It was a rush.
