Thermals are witchcraft
I laughed for DAYS We nit pick guns "AR vs AK vs whatever" That's irrelevant compared to night vision Some asshole with PVS-14 and a Mosin is automatically more dangerous than 87% of people 50% of the time |

Best I have right now is Gen 2. It’s an ATN 4x, before they rebranded. Works, but the focal plane is really shallow and I end up spending a lot of time fucking with the focus.
But... I have a big bonus check coming in on Monday that I’ve not decided what I’m going to do with yet. I’m going shopping for Gen 3 helmet-mounted binge tonight and see what I think :). Here’s a pic through my ATN. The reticle is turned off, and the truck is parked two houses down in my lightless subdivision. Attached File |

I filmed this with my iphone through the UTMx, so it does look off. I have some incredible video of fire dancers with the thermal, still trying to edit them.

Typical gd reply. I bought this in the Alley. Incirlik turkey in 93. Its iranian hand woven 12x3. Been walked on for 25 years. Cats love the tassles...well what used to be. I bought numerous pe4sians and smuggled em in my travel pod. No customs in my Viper. They were gifts for my late wife Regina who passed 8 months ago in a lot of pain. She was 54. She loved her rugs. I have a place that can repair to new. I like it like this. 25 years with the family. If u meant it asan insult...fufi you. If it was in good spiritthen.... Never can tell here. Ive gotta get back to stalking View Quote |

I own both a 7 and a 14 and have owned / used others. My limited take: 7 is the shit for stationary observation, especially with a 3x / 5x (I forget, there's a bigger one) slapped on there. 7 is good for limited mobile operations where you don't do much but walk in the open and watch way ahead. 7 is horrible for if you need to look down at something / look back up, or if you need to make sure it isn't bright enough to see you occasionally. 14 is horrible for stationary observation. Very narrow field of view on both, but it really shows with single tube. 14 is better if you need to look down at something / look back up, or if you need to make sure it isn't bright enough to see you occasionally. (use a nav light and use the other eye. In the woods highly highly consider clear specs, you're gonna catch a branch eventually) 14 is the shit for limited mobile operations where you don't do much but walk in the open and watch way ahead. I've driven on hardball with both; it's kind of a wash depending on the vehicle and road conditions. PROBABLY safer with the 14. Inside a house, or where there are trip/fall hazards, or where people are really waiting to kill you... white light saves the day unless you got those pano tubes and got a LOT of hours on night vision. It's like looking through a toilet paper tube, seriously. Your neck is getting leg day, no question... View Quote |

A couple days ago I was out by myself and distinctly heard other human/s but sound carries a long way out there at night especially when still, still a bit freaky when you are way out in the boonies. |

G3 NV is one of those things I wish I had gotten into years earlier. Ridiculous amounts of fun, and extremely useful for coyote hunting (wish all my hunting buddies hadn't moved away though ). We don't have hogs in NM per se but we can't even hunt coyotes at night. I'm not sure if it's at night or with artificial light, either way Game & Fish frowns on it, but I still want NODS soooo bad.

I have a gen 3 pvs14 and am getting a helmet from Hard Head Veterans. What mount do you recommend for the pvs14. I know Wilcox makes nice stuff. Also want to start with a Steiner dbal a3 or an l3 insight ATPIAL C. Any preference between the two?

The inference that not possessing NV, is a significant gamble with one’s life is...well...silly. Quoted:
you mean, like some disaster, like, say a hurricane, where large areas are out of power? and say, there might be looters out? so, let's say you hear some bumps in the night, and other strange things occuring. are you going outside, shining a bright flashlight? or would you go out with nvds, and creep around, to find out who is out there? Ok. Just got a double from the sounder in the flir pic 2 posts above. Stalked to 80 m on the first shot. They started getting nervous. First was a neck shot just bdhind the ear. Dropped there. The rest bolted and shot the smaller one on the full out run...est 125m. Also dropped right there. 0415 were the shots. Tall grass and weeds made finding them a tad the pain in the ass.
