As I was trying to wash my feet in the shower this morning, I almost slipped.  This got me to thinking and wondering, what if I did fall & crack my head open, bleeding out all over the floor?  How long would it take for someone to find me?  Bear in mind, I live alone except for my dog.  I figure it would take at least a week.  I don't think my dog would really start going crazy and alert anyone, if she got hungry she'd probably just eat my dead body.

So, how long would you lay there rotting before someone found you?  Obviously you married guys it would only be a day at most, but what about the rest of you?

It would take the wife less than 5 minutes if I had money with me.

Other than that I don't think anyone would come looking for me.....except maybe fellow board members

I hope it would take less than a day.

I dont live with my girl friend, but if she didn't hear from me, I know she would come looking.

I probably wouldn't be found for a month or two.  Nobody cares .

Until the bill collectors or landlord come on knocking....And that would take months.

within hours, because my house is rarely left un-attended for long periods, somebody would
find me within that same day.

Norman, If you dissapeared from the boards all of a sudden, I'd come check on ya.

My wife would find me.

Wether or not she would call anyone is up for debate.

I've got almost 100 sick days, she could just keep calling me in and taking my paychecks.

Even married it would take at least a couple of days --- she would come looking for me on Monday and Thursday to take out the garbage, on Saturdays to cut the yard and once a week (or maybe more) for ummmmmm....marital relations.

There have been people found dead in their house YEARS after they died.

Check rotten.com (older entries) for some hideous examples, like of the guy who died in the bathtub and wasn't found for like two months or something.  Ultra nasty.

probably less than a day. Neighbors would wonder why it's so quiet.

The real question is "How long it would take to find the body you hide".... fullclip

I once sold two .357 Rugers to these two women that were "roommates".  They ultimately used them & some magsafes to commit double suicide in the tub.  If I remember correctly it was over a week, and only then because the neighbors could smell them.

Hanging Corpse Admired as Sculpture on Campus
Fri Nov 14, 1:51 PM ET  Add Oddly Enough - Reuters to My Yahoo!

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Police on Friday removed the corpse of a man believed to have hanged himself at least a year ago after builders and students at Budapest's University of Arts had initially mistaken it for a modern sculpture.

The body hung for a whole day in a garden building that had been re-opened for repairs before onlookers realized what it was and called the police, local media said.

The building, in campus grounds crowded with different types of sculpture, had been closed five years ago pending reconstruction work.

Nice to know so many have a job where not showing up is no big deal

I have seen firsthand what a cat will do to a corpse after missing a couple of meals. On the other hand, I have been told by a first responder that finding a starving dog guarding its master's untouched body is not uncommon.

It's not that it's a big deal, it's just that they wouldn't really care.  Care in terms of compassion.  They would just be pissed that they have more work to do now.  They would honestly probably just think I quit.

Jarhead_22, I've seen what 2 dogs did to their owner after 3 days. No jaw, and a few nibbles here and there. As for me, my wife would find me within minutes. *whine*Where are you? What are you doing?*whine*

Not until your landlord noticed the stink, or or your boss reported you missing to the police.

P.S., if you live alone don't ever own a shitbag cat. They'll eat your eyes out.

Less than a day. Someone would notice me gone, wether be one of the friends, work, the firehouse, or a roomate.

Probably only a day or two, but if I needed medical attention (i.e. cracked my head open in the shower and passed out), I'd more than likely bleed out and die.  Work would be concerned on my 2nd No Call No Show, but my roomate would probably find me sooner, I hope, but you never know, he might just think I'm pulling a Rip Van Winkle.

Depends...Sometimes it would be within seconds as the wife and I sometimes conserve water

But, then again, she probably wouldn't even notice and she would continue yapping until she needed conditioner for her hair!

And, I have 7 cats and 2 dogs. If I croak, they can have me. But, if the SHTF, and I am hungry, turn about is fair play.. It just means I got to them first....

I see the kitties eyeballing me all the time... Kitty kisses my ass! They're TASTING me!

After languishing on the cold bathroom floor for several hours,.... just when he thought salvation was at hand, the last cruel words he would ever hear from his loving and compassionate wife at the moment of his death were "goddamn it are'nt you done whacking off yet!!!"[>Q]

You know you laugh about this thread but it's quite actually a good point.  Time after time we run into doa calls where they've been down for quite a while.  What amazes me is the neighbors will say, "oh I've noticed she hasn't been around for a month and that her papers and mail are piled up and I usually see her everyday."  But then don't have enough thought to check.
