Not the best, but honorable mention.

The Black Crowes. AC/DC is a close second, but the Crowes were more versatile.

The Beatles were POPular--not rock. View Quote I was on an elevator the other day and guess who's songs Musac was playing? Given the state of rock and roll at the time that their first several albums were released, they were pretty near cutting edge rock and roll. |

The Beatles were...the Beatles. They caused more uproar and had more number 1 hits than any other band in history, and did it in about a 10 year period. Hell, they even had 5 movies out. Rolling Stones or the Grateful Dead
No one else has the live show/performance heritage and the musical/song writing talent. Sorry pal. Those are the options. |

To me a to even qualify you should have revolutionized your genres, not just turn out more of the same, or evolved as a band, contributed to the genres their in or in some cases crossed genres. Most of the bands litsted have not done much except turn out albums that really sound the same, nothing revolutionary. Sorry it’s easy to name a band, but what have they done to actually deserve greatest band status? I don’t care for Kiss, Sabbath, or Rush (among others) but I can not deny their contribution to music.

Quoted: Without Kiss, the world would have been a better place.... I was born in '72, and Kiss' Dynasty was actually the first actual vinyl record I remember being able to call my own. Not their best work, IMO, as it was their foray into disco, but once I had that album I considered myself a fan, and worked backwards from their into their much stronger material. I would have called myself a fan up until '92 or so, and then music took another direction. My albums/CDs/Cassettes got mostly packed away as I got married, started a family, a business, etc. Fast forward a few years to the digital revolution where literally anything you want to hear is at your fingertips, and most of the Kiss tracks just strike me as formulaic compared to their competition. Their strongest work was early on, with their later efforts just oozing schmaltz IMO. Hell, if Kiss had their way, their might not have been a Van Halen, or G'nR as we know it. Thankfully King Eddie the Asshole turned the gig down, and G'nR basically told Paul Stanley to fuck-off when he wanted to produce them. |

While not a group Ted Nugent, was with the Amboy Dukes and he’s pro 2A, gun owner and activist for our cause as well as hunting, how many other ones listed are?

How about pro second amendment, gun owner groups and or musicians,
Ted Nugent Aerosmith ZZ Top The Van Halen brothers were, their dad Jan was a big time shooter and amateur pistol competitor, he also had a pretty large collection as well. |

I would also put forward The Cult as a band that should get an honorable mention.
In no way the greatest, but they were great at what they did; just being a straight-up hard rock band. Their catalog has also aged pretty well to my ears. Not to mention Billy Duffy looking like a bad-ass playing that big, hollow-bodied Gibson. |

See, what you young-uns don't understand, and even some of you oldsters don't get is that the Beatles were leaders. They had tha sound and look which lead the British Invasion into the USA (Totally wiping out the sound Elvis, the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean and that ilk had become complacent with). Hard to know it now, but the Beatles were on the cutting edge. Everyone else from England just followed. They just followed the leader.
Then, the Beatles changed. They introduced psychedelic flavor to rock and expanded the genre by an order of magnitude. All the various forms of rock that followed, including metal, owe their existence to that second Beatles awesomeness. Thus, not only did the Beatles top almost everyone in popularity, but in those early days, they guided the sound of rock and its various iterations that are with us today. The Stones? Well, they were ummm... second. |

Always been a fan of The Moody Blues. They have sold a ton of albums over the decades. When I was in college in the late 60's early 70's they were played a lot in the dorms. Finally going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
