Jennings
Davis Raven Llama Hi-Point Glock I like my XD9. Had it 10 years and probably shot it the most of any besides a Ruger SP101. |

I have a friend of a friend that recently took up an interest in guns. He's asked me a bit about my opinions, caliber, etc. He was recently super excited to show it to me. As he goes back to grab it from his bedroom I was thinking, I'd bet $100 that its an XD in .40 or S&W SW9VE/SW40VE.... Sure enough, its a fucking .40 XD with full gripzone . Talked about ammo a bit and he mentioned that with .40 you dont need JHPs because its already so powerful (according to the gun counter clerk) and using JHPs might be considered overkill by a jury. I told him he was full of shit, and he bought some HSTs online. He's taking a basic pistol class at a shop I frequent (and only has a few tards that work there). +1 pro gun voter. Are there just "newbie" guns and what makes them that way? View Quote |

Quoted: It's the gold standard of first centerfire handgun for a new shooter. If you don't even know what you don't know, you should just buy a Glock and learn how to shoot it. Take some classes, shoot bowling pins or GSSF or IDPA or whatever on the weekends. Spend $1,000 on ammo through it. After you do that, then you'll understand what to look for in a handgun. And even if you sell it, your resale value will be fine, especially if you bought a used one to begin with. 99% of the problems people have with guns are because they haven't invested enough time shooting and learning. View Quote Your "every new shooter must start with a Glock or he's a fool" position is rather odd, even for a fanboi. You must spend a year and a thousand rounds with a Glock or you aren't a shooter!. Really? |

Every time I go to the range it seems any noob shooters there have a Taurus 9 of whatever flavor or a Smith and Wesson bodyguard.
Special mention goes out to HiPoint and Phoenix HP22. Nobody takes these to the range though because they are ashamed. |

Insisting upon a full-power cartridge, rather than learning to respect the .22LR. Serious shooters respect the .22. View Quote Don't like Glocks. Not a real fan of quasi DA only striker fired pistols. Putting the safety in the trigger was and is the damned dumbest firearm innovation I ever heard of. |

Anything Taurus.
Tacticool-ed Mossberg pump shotguns. Bubba'ed milsurps. AR with cheap hunting scope or Chinese red dot, and too many accessories. These are miserable to use. |

I was gonna say this, but sks's are $600 nowadays. New shooters are buying ar15's. Ten years ago sks's were an attractive option. My buddy bought one, tapco'd it and bought a Sigma. What a pos. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

My first gun purchase was a G17 and a Mosin, if that tells you anything.

I’ve seen lifelong gun owners do the stupidest things you can think of. Stupid has no limit or expiration.

I bought a S&W M&P 2.0 compact in 9mm for my first handgun. That was back in November of last year.
Bought my first AR in 2006, a Stag 3T no idea if these are noob options or rookie picks but i've enjoyed them. |

Glock. They're cheap, so many new, inexperienced shooters think they're great.

Springfield XD, cheap optics, or huge fanboys of a single brand, usually HK, Sig or Glock.

I still shoot USPSA with a XDM 5.25 .40. I like it, and have fun. Oh, and I'm poor!
I can't really justify dropping the coin on a custom shadow when I'll suck just as bad with it. Shoot what ya got and have fun. |

I started in a slew of 1911’s, a Norinco underfolder & a Colt AR.
Glock & BCM nowadays. |

Who cares? I applaud “fist time” gun owners who are enthusiastic about shooting more than the guys who own only “tier 1” safe queens.

It's not so much a particular firearm, it's the annoying-ass tendency to not be interested in having more mags than
the firearm came with and more than one box of ammo to feed it. That and some seriously cheap-ass holsters. |
