I have a friend of a friend that recently took up an interest in guns. He's asked me a bit about my opinions, caliber, etc. He was recently super excited to show it to me. As he goes back to grab it from his bedroom I was thinking, I'd bet $100 that its an XD in .40 or S&W SW9VE/SW40VE.... Sure enough, its a fucking .40 XD with full gripzone . Talked about ammo a bit and he mentioned that with .40 you dont need JHPs because its already so powerful (according to the gun counter clerk) and using JHPs might be considered overkill by a jury. I told him he was full of shit, and he bought some HSTs online. He's taking a basic pistol class at a shop I frequent (and only has a few tards that work there). +1 pro gun voter. Are there just "newbie" guns and what makes them that way? View Quote |

Anything Glock
AR15s What's with the XD hate? I love how the gripzone fits my hand an as a result I shoot better with my XD than any other handgun I own. Although it wasn't the brightest marketing to mold it into the frame. Tell me ARFCOM show me how the grip safety hurt you? |

Not the gun itself as much as the cheap Chinese tacticool accessories/holsters

Quoted: Let me stop you right there, because the reverse is far more common. The person with a passionate distaste for Glocks, despite never having shot more than two boxes of ammo through one (and I'm being generous with that), is almost certainly a noob. Worse, they're a noob who doesn't understand or accept that they lack expertise. There is a reason all the common wisdom suggests a Glock as a first handgun. If you go against that, without any experience in shooting Glocks, you're ignoring a number of lessons that you need to learn upfront. I don't care if you shoot the thing for a year, and then decide you hate it, sell it, and get something else. At least your opinion will be an informed one. But if you take an "I hate Glocks" position without any significant experience behind one... then you're a noob. And it's common. I did it. I "hated" Glocks for years. Then I finally wised up and bought a Glock. They're good, and better than most, and fighting that without understanding is the mark of a noob. View Quote |

A ridiculously powerful magnum rifle to shoot Texas whitetail. I remember asking a guy with a new .300 RUM if he wanted them to explode, as well. He was unamused. He then went hunting, shot an armadillo from about 5 feet away, and it exploded. He bought a 7mm-08 and is a lot happier. That armadillo was the first thing he had ever shot, and the first time he had fired the rifle (got someone else to mound scope and sight in).

I know guys that have been shooting for years, that still but whatever is cheapest. They decide they want a 9mm, whatever the gun store has cheap they buy. One buddy bought a nice AR and won’t spend over $100 for an optic for it, then blames the gun for being inaccurate.

Growing up in the '70's and '80's, my first gun ever was a Hungarian AKM, underfolder. First real handgun was a Colt Combat Commander in .45.
I think during the '80's, newbs had stainless Ruger Mini 14's and HK91/93... The good ol' days. |

Any pistol cheaper than a Glock/P320. The savings just aren't worth it.

Classic ARFCOM GD elitist/badass tacticool operator retardation in this thread.

That super dry AR at the next bench over with NiB BCG that “doesn’t need lube cause it’s got this coating” that won’t shoot more than 3rds without jamming.

Taurus PT 140
My Uncle bought my 2 cousins there first handguns for Christmas a few years. They collect dust now since I turned them both on to the HK P30 series. They are much happier now. |
