If you’re referring to his tin face mask due to his gun shot wound, yes that was the norm for facial injuries.

I can’t post pics. But if you google “WWI Medical Prosthesis” and chose images, you’ll find Arms/hands modified to hold welding tools & face masks, usually with eye glasses.

I've seen several posts with the Renault tank in them. There's a restored, running one right down the road from me at The Museum of the American GI in College St, TX. They actually run it.

That's pretty sweet! The family story is that my Great Grandpa rode a motorcycle and acted as a courier to bring back word on where the tanks were needed. Unfortunately he passed away before my dad was born and his sons (my grandpa and great Uncle, both WWII vets) died in the ealy 2000's. So we'll likely never really know much else. I've read that very few US FT-17's made it to France before the Armistice with most getting there in December 1918. Mom and dad sent me this picture of pictures so quality isnt great but the bottom left is the full picture of my profile pic, bottom right were somewhere in France (I think Bordeaux based on the penant at the top.)

None of my good photos are hosted.  But, here are a few of my hosted centenarians:

1) Frommer 1912 Stop (dated 1918)
2) Ross Mk III 1910 (Stock marking has a 1917 date) I took this photo years ago to illustrate how big these are, that sight radius is about a yard.
3) British Contract Colt New Serivce (No Date, but a WWI Contract)(.455 Eley, which is the same as Webley)
4) Unshaven Webley MkIV (1916)

I remember on Dan Carlin's podcast he said if you want to know what Napolean's Cuirassiers looked like, just look at pictures of WWI French cavalry.  The uniforms and armor were essentially unchanged.  Crazy to think they had the same equipment from the time of smoothbore muskets up until the modern machine gun era.

The Kettering Bug was an experimental, unmanned aerial torpedo, a forerunner of present-day cruise missiles. It was capable of striking ground targets up to 121 kilometres (75 mi) from its launch point, while traveling at speeds of 80 kilometres per hour (50 mph).

They existed, but from what I've read and seen on WWI documentaries, they were steel with leather straps to hold them on.

The fellow on the left with his finger off the trigger, that's probably the oldest picture I have ever seen with someone doing that. Police photos from the 30's to the 70's and every WWII picture people always have their fingers on triggers. Maybe he was just ahead of his time.

Actually the guy third from the right also appears to have his finger off the trigger but he also seems to have his 1911 pointed at someone's head.

IIRC the total area of all those zones is the size of new jersey.  The scale is almost incomprehensible.
