I have a C.A.R. Is there really a need for a scope on this rifle? If so, what kind?

It all depends on the type of shooting you will be doing whether or not a scope is needed/wanted, but for a CAR-type a couple of good choices would be an Aimpoint or Trijicon Reflex.  A quick search in the 'Optics, Mounts, and Sights' forum should be able to answer a lot of your questions since this topic is discussed quite frequently.  Other than that, tell us some specific uses and you'll get some good replies.

levi, if you have an A3 (flattop) then  I would like ot suggest the ATN 5x33 Professional.  It's only about $200 and is, IMHO, the very best value for a scope out there.  Features include 10 position illuminated reticle, range finding ability, coated lenses, bullet drop compensation out to 500 yards and etched reticles (this means that the reticles will not be effected by shock or vibration and that the reticles are independent of the illumination batteries).

Now, if you have an A1 or A2 receiver then I deferr to an ACOG or Aimpoint type optic.

I got my flat top outfitted with a daytime, Burris 3-9X, 40mm.  It has the crosshairs to estimate drop at 200-500 yards.  I have the harris bipod to pop small animals.
