I was having blood drawn from the Drs office.and while in the waiting room, was blocked from going to this site. WTF?
I can understand the porn sites being blocked but Ar15.com?..... |
Haha... My work firewall blocks the main URL for the site... But not anything else. Just click on my history for "Active Topics" and I'm in!
Hospitals and church blocks me. I just turn it off and use LTE.

McAfee web filtering at my place of employment (Fortune 500 company) now blocks this place. It also blocks the <Edited -40xb> domain as well under the same qualification, weapons.

1. Guns
2. the EE makes this an online arms trading site not just a forum |
Web filters have broad categories like Nudity, Violence, Job Search, Hate Speech, Weapons, etc., so it's unlikely that this site is specifically blocked by the hospital. The liberal-leaning admin who set up the filter probably checked the box for weapons and felt like he'd done his good deed for the day preventing electronic gun violence.

A lot of that sort of stuff gets blocked by category and the category often gets populated by lists put together by the company that manufacturer and/or a third-party that compiles these lists.
Probably listed as "adult" or "weapons" and enabled by an administrator instructed to create a "safe" browsing environment. I doubt ARFCOM is the only "gun" site blocked. |

Use your own cell data and then you won't have to worry about it being blocked.
New firewall at my place of employment was initially set up to block firearms/weapons related websites. Once one of the bosses couldn't get to Gunbroker or something, that was rectified quickly.

So OP, if you want to use free wi-fi, you have to pony up for membership here to get the discreet web address. Or just go on LTE.
Stop being an FSA and buy a membership. There's ways for members to get around places that block ARFcom.

I thought it would be at the hospital I have been going to but they are okay with it for now. Just slower connection than riding the pony express.

I used to get this all the time. Then I got a VPN and I smile the entire time I surf the gun sites while I'm there. Haha. Suck it gun haters!
My company blocks every gun site, but this one has somehow slipped through the cracks.
Why are you surfing on public wifi without a VPN?
Bad bad bad |
I would use my 4g but you don't get any signal inside the place ,so I switched to WiFi.
It's the entire site that's blocked. |

Tell us why you didn't confront them about the blocked site ?? _ |

Well, with all the hippie Liberals that have been popping up in here lately, I'm not surprised.

Once a website gets on the one of the web filter appliance black lists it tends to get included via check box policy for ever after.
I would expect this problem to get worse for arfcom over the next few years |
I stayed with my wife at a hospital for 5 weeks earlier this year. I just used my own data because the Hospital WiFi blocked Arfcom and anything gun related.
Yes, ARFCOM is considered a weapons site and therefore "bad." Youtube which shows you how to make guns, crossbows, bombs, swords, etc. is "okay."
If it blocks objectionable content....
CNN, Huff Post, ect .. . should be blocked. |
Guns cause anxiety
Anxiety causes people to smoke Smoking causes cancer therefore Guns cause cancer silly. |
This topic caused me to change my OpenVPN settings on my home router to "Full Tunnel" so that I can give these businesses the finger and still use their WiFi to surf arfcom

I didn't know this. Could someone share the secret with me? Thanks View Quote They are listed at the top of the Team forum. I refuse to use them though as there are no green arrows. I just don't see the point of a covert site for Team members when the main benefit of being a Team member is the green arrows |

Anything hospital-related I've been to subscribe to the same web filtering black/white lists I think.
Also, a "legal made us do this" post: (left cold) https://www.hipaajournal.com/internet-access-control-for-hospitals/ Church, all of the sites work there. |
