I'm having a lot of trouble with this pic, forced perspective always plays a role here, but his arm is bent and he doesn't seen that far away. What's the weight?

I remember driving through Elk, New Mexico.

There was a sign welcoming you to Elk, and next to it what I thought was a statue of a big bull elk.

The elk turned his head and watched us go by.

Truth in advertising!

I thought that same thing when I first saw it.  I was thinking 340-350ish.   His dad estimated 350 after they got him and was surprised also when they finally measured him up and got 375

I have been guilty in the past of occasionally budgeting myself conservatively for a hunt planning on just meat hunting and then realizing that I'm not well budgeted for the possibility of taking a real trophy and being able to comfortably afford a proper mount. If I had shot that elk, I'd sell my fucking vehicle if necessary to get a good head mount. I would sell my anal virginity if necessary. The real problem is that I don't have tall enough ceilings over my stone fireplace to hang such a trophy. I'd need to sell my house and get a new one that could handle a wall hanger like that one in the fashion it deserves. That is incredible.

Kid is ruined now. No other animal he shoots will ever measure up to that one. My Moby Dick is still out there somewhere. Grazing... Growing...

I hate forced perspective photography. We get the subject is big, you don't have to stand 5 feet behind it to make it look more huge. Fishermen started it, the rattlesnake killing crowd perfected it.

That's all the rage now, stand way back, make it seem like you are holding the rack so it makes the animal look like a monster.
